Clinton v. Trump - 2016 Election Thread

Postby Tomas » Wed Nov 09, 2016 11:02 pm

BTW, this is an email I received in my official work account yesterday. I am curious how the guy did, considering his awesome timing skills. His email came at 5:24 PM on the election day! :)
My Fellow Americans,

My name is Devon Manelski. I am an independent candidate who is campaigning to be President of the United States of America. My platform builds upon the socially progressive and fiscally conservative values that have made America one of the most successful nations in history.

Over the past two decades, America's future has grown less certain. The incomes of everyday Americans are shrinking, and our standard of living and quality of life are in decline. As America's middle class is growing weaker, there has been a rise in crime, a rise in corruption, and an increase in government solutions that have put the American People at greater personal and financial risk. Government initiatives intended to protect us have created systemic issues in America's economy, justice system, businesses and news media that have betrayed our public trust. For every day moving forward Americans must work to restore our personal, financial and information security. We must get back to the values that have made America the most successful nation in modern history.

1. A Free and Safe Society
2. A Strong and Fair Justice System
3. A Free and Objective Press
4. Hard Work - Know How - Continuous Improvement
5. Direct and Clear Communication
6. Business Sense
7. Business Integrity
8. Free Markets
9. Fearless Business Innovation
10. Disciplined Strength

While we may face uncertainty, uncertainty will always be defeated by building on the fundamentals that consistently lead to sustainable growth, and a sustainable nation. Please visit my campaign website in order to learn more about my campaign to be President of the United States of America, http://www.devon2016.com.

Sincerely,
Devon Manelski

Hillary (because I decided 10 minutes before I left that I would do my best to not give the election to Trump) would've lost PA by 68,235 votes, rather than 68,236.

Ever want to know that your vote doesn't matter? There it is.
See, I look at that as 68,236 people who did not say 'my vote doesn't matter'.

In other news, I realized tonight that in my five Preidential elections my vote hasn't mattered.
I have voted in seven presidential elections, and I have chosen the winner exactly one time. :fist:
I have backed:

Bush Sr in '92
Dole in '96
Gore in '00
Kerry in '04*
McCain in '08*
Johnson in '12*
Johnson in '16*

*Actually voted (old enough)

I'm terrible at this. I was a true believer in all of them except the Johnson ones.

So I've read that the reason Clinton deferred her concession speech to today is because she and her staff were so distraught they just didn't think they could pull it together.

But I think because they chose the Javits Center for their rally, she didn't want to give that speech under the giant glass ceiling.

I've picked the winner before, but not the winner of my state. I've never won a battle, but somehow I'm 2-3 in wars.
Bush Sr
Clinton
----------(old enough to vote)-------
Gore
Kerry
Obama

MO went red all five times.

I look back at Perot much more fondly than how I perceived him at the time.

My vote in California hasn't mattered. The state knows better for me. Moved here in mid 80's.

Pink Floyd's The Wall is the alternant soundtrack of my vote. It speaks to both sides.

What I fear, the other side embraces. What I embrace, the other side fears.

Politicians spread the fear. Politicians get wealthy on spreading fear. Snake oil. Snake oil sells.

I still enjoy my life. Plan to. Will.

Cmon, I'm not a huge fan of Trump but this is literally whining after Trump won fair and square (allegedly). Stop being sore losers

I think the St. Paul march just went by. News and/or police copter is doing laps above the neighborhood.

I guess instead of making fun of these people as sore sports, maybe, just maybe, Trump supporters should look at it and say wow, there's another half of this population that also thinks they're getting the shaft albeit for different reasons.
If there'd be a group that would empathize with the feeling, you'd think Trump supporters after 8 years of Obama would understand.

But it's always us vs them, winners and losers.

Nah.

Yeah. I wasn't a fan of Obama, but I sure as hell wasn't out protesting democracy and blocking traffic when he won. I empathize with millions of Hillary voters that truly felt their candidate was the best choice moving forward for America. It sucks to lose, and I hope I can bridge the gap with the people in my social and familial circles that voted that way.

I do not empathize with these true losers that are in the streets crying, screaming, and literally pulling their hair out that they didn't get their way. The rate at which America is getting more and more progressive at an exponential rate over the last 15-20 years, and that's great. There have been huge gains for the progressive movement. If you would believe the vitriol and hysteria coming from the mouths of these (mostly) millennial babies, you would think the referendum has already been passed to revert to the 1950s. Take a deep **** breath and see what happens, you nutjobs.

It was linked from another site, I didn't bother reading through the feed. Why don't attacks like this earn the attention of the media, HuffPo etc? Because it doesn't fit their precious narrative.

The politicians and media in Sweden are devastated after the election of Trump. It is almost hilarious that it includes almost 100% of them (for example every major newspaper and all party leaders except the leader for the nationalist party)...

To anyone who is fearful about what's to come, the good news is that Trump is notorious for not fulfilling promises.

"Trump Won Because Leftist Political Correctness Inspired a Terrifying Backlash"

http://reason.com/blog/2016/11/09/trump ... tical-corr

Lot of decent points here, and he touches on something I've noticed a lot recently: the liberals have done a better job of dividing people into separate groups better than any amount of rhetoric from Trump. According to them, you're either a minority or a white male, and if you're a white male, you're the worst. When you discredit a whole swath of the population because they're white and male and because they have "privilege", how do you expect them to take that? Do you think they're just going to go "Oh gee I guess you're right, might as well not say or do anything because I'm a white dude..."?
That's silly. As a white male I've never once felt like I was being blamed for anything.
Kind of seems like a load of horseshit to me. Trump told people what they wanted to hear, he wasn't a politician speaking out of both sides of his mouth or giving long non answers. People that accept the world is complex with complex solutions rejected trump. Those that either agreed with that or think they have a better chance of employing their binary logic with trump elected him.
As a blue collar guy out in the sticks, literally surrounded by vociferous Trump supporters, I can testify that this article makes a valid point. Most of them just beam when pointing out that 'he speaks his mind' and 'they don't control him'. It was just behind HRC hate as a reason to vote for him, and certainly more of a factor than any of his policy proposals.
Oh for sure, I wasn't trying to analyze the psyche of the trump voter and propose an alternative. I think that plenty of people think like that in the article. I'm saying that it's horse **** and as much as we complain about poor people not doing enough to get ahead, what do we have to say about these losers that just want to dodint about how shitty things are and not go back to school and get a technical degree or move somewhere that has good jobs?
