Huh? Hot dogs and sausages are both on their own...maybe under the giant sandwich umbrella, maybe...but no one would say "one sausage sandwich please" and then push up their nerd glasses...they'd be instantly decapitated and rightfully so...

They're on their own, off to the side...if you want sandwich to be at the very, very top of the chain and have it cover like half of all foods, then go nuts...it's not a necessary distinction, and perhaps even a touch misleading...

Hot dog, sub, hamburger, cheesesteak, muffuletta..... all examples of sandwiches which, through popularity, have become known by their 'brand' name sans the sandwich moniker. I don't go to a fast food place and order a hamburger sandwich, notwithstanding that's how the thing was known for the first 50 years of its existence (and how it is still referred to at Louis Lunch, widely regarded as the birthplace of that particular comestible). When I go to the music store, I don't have to specify that I'm looking for a guitar when I ask if they have any vintage Stratocasters in stock. You will not, credibly, hear anyone say "Can you show me all the Stratocaster xylophones you have on offer?" because everyone knows it's a f**king guitar.

i love ketchup on beef altogether so im fine with it on hotdogs. if im grilling at home i usually have that and mustard, even if i have chili too.

is there anywhere in pgh to get a good chicago hot dog? ive never tried one.

I really didn't think I'd like Chicago Dogs, but got one in Chicago (without tomatoes) and really liked it.

Not sure about Pittsburgh area, but the Vienna brand dogs are key.
