Have to assume all that stuff about not wanting to be Mason's backup is true now.

If he doesn’t want to be a backup, he’s gonna have a bad time in Philly.

Kind of wish they would've known about this early enough to sign Flacco.

Per none team mouthpiece's, it seems to be more of a case that after the season they told Pickett he was their guy, then told him they were signing Wilson and there would be a competition, while telling Wilson he was coming in to start. I wouldn't blame anyone for being annoyed, but that doesn't mean you quit.

Eh, the writing was on the wall for KP's future with the Steelers. They needed to decide next March if they wanted to pick up his 5th year option, and they seem to already have given up on even figuring if he was worth it with the Russ signing.

All the Steelers have talked about this offseason is essentially getting the Canada stink off KP to evaluate him, and they decided to just toss him anyway. KP only had 1 full game under a non-Canada coordinator and actually looked good.

Wonder what QB they'll draft... I doubt they move up to take any of the top ones, so maybe a 3rd or 4th round shot?

Steelers talked about it? Or steelers fans talked about it?

I don't want to go and find the quote, but Khan pretty much said they couldn't evaluate if KP was going to be a franchise QB given the issues on offense, and they were looking forward to what Smith could do with him.

The offense gained 400 yds for the first time in 59 games... including games in which Ben played. I don't even like Pickett, but evaluating a player on their boxscore is amateur hour.

Pittsburgh seems stacked. Obviously a better situation for Russ to walk into than denver. If they win, you'll see instagram posts from the anti-reality portion of Wilson's brain, and he'll do a commercial in a sleeveless hoodie, nothing worse.

Kenny was dealt a tough hand imo. He took over last year without really getting starter reps, then continued in the self sabotaging Canada offense this year. He looked good in the game and a half without Canada, but I wouldn't argue that the best ability is availability, so that's on him. Then, you sit there and watch Mason Rudolph look competent in the offense you've been wanting to run, with a competent run game finally, has to be frustrating.. but, a true first rounder probably would have shown something more by now. So I don't think he was ever really in a favorable situation and feel for him that way, but this is the pros and jobs and millions of dollars are on the line, so life ain't always fair.

I don't think you can downplay the situational component for quarterbacks.

Pickett was absolutely dealt a bad hand, that's undeniable. Trubisky is the worst qb we've ever seen, and Canada is the worst OC we've ever seen. That Pickett was able to look competent at all in 2022 was undeniably impressive. And then they looked like best offense in the world last preseason, and proceeded to be play the most pathetic football we've ever seen starting against SF. The sample size is big enough at this point, and some of his performances break the pathetic scale.

If he doesn't want to be a backup he should've been born with more talent. That is full breadth and depth of the toughness of his hand(s). He was drafted two entire rounds ahead of his merit because of his proximity to higher ups who should f**king well know better at this stage.

I dunno, they needed a qb, and they took the best one available. Ideally they could have let Pickett sit for a year, but the every snap that Trubisky played had the potential for causing the fans to riot. A completely untenable situation, and of course Pickett looked good compared to Trubisky, just how Mason looked good compared to Pickett and Trubisky.

I think it's pretty clear that Russ is the guy for next year and some more. Russ will definitely drop some stinkers, but I think his floor is fine and this move will be celebrated in the future.

This is a starting QB just falling into your lap. Not sure I can think of another example of something like this. But Russ was not dumped for being bad, he was dumped because he was miscast as a transcendent qb talent (the trade and contract). He'll manage the offense here, they'll have a run game and a defense. The division will be between us and the Bengals.
