I went to go jump my wife’s car battery, and the Honda engineers buried the Pilot’s battery under the air intake. I have to take this cowl thing with pop rivets off, then unscrew two plastic bolts to get the air intake to get to the negative battery post. WTF.

I was googling around, and that’s not even the worst location for a batter - evidently Dodge Intrepids’ batteries are behind a tire? And some Caddys are in the back seat.

Yes, driver front wheel well. Couldn't take it out with the wheel on the car.

So we got my wife's car started, battery was fine according to O'reilly's. But now the backup camera is pixelated and blacked out? WTF part 2

OK, now I've been reading how you really shouldn't jump start newer cars these days because of all of the sensitive electronics on board. FWIW, my wife's car was fine until after O'Reilly's tested the battery...then the backup camera stopped working. We have an extended warranty on it, so we'll see how that goes. Replacing the camera doesn't look too tricky, but I'm concerned it may be the logic board or something.

On that note, what jumpbox/battery pack do you recommend for jumping cars these days? That seems to be the preferred and safe(r) method than the ol' cables.

This is the one I have, which has been used on both of our cars already. Worked beautifully.

This is why I have no desire to buy a modern car. Way too many electronics involved and I don't see them lasting for years.

Halo makes a little compact charger that we keep in my wife's Forester. It's worked well twice now (left lights on overnight).

One of my neighbors down the street has a son who is exactly what you'd think of when you hear "Mustang owner". He has a late model GT, enjoys revving it for no reason, goes the wrong way down a one way street all the time, and generally speeds everywhere (lots of small streets here capped at 25). Drove by his car yesterday to see that he very clearly slammed the back end into a curb. That was amusing.

Any curb, really. His right rear wheel is trying to go in a different direction than the rest of the car.

Picked up a corded impact driver and an impact adapter for the scissors jack I use for my car. Cut the time it takes me to swap my wheels and tires by probably 2/3. Why the eff didn't I buy these years ago.

I always tell shops to tighten mine to spec so I don't get stuck with a flat I can't take off.

Totally effortless. Put the jack in place, insert the driver into the socket, and brrrrrrrrt, the car is up in the air.

I still need to get the new tires mounted that I bought more than a year ago. I'm thinking I should get the TPMS sensors replaced at the same time. While they're still working fine, I've heard that the batteries in TPMS sensors last around 5 to 10 years, and these ones are 6 years old. Considering I'm driving much less these days, I figure the batteries will likely croak before I wear out this set of tires.
