I think she's only a sophomore in high school, but a former neighbor committed to Pitt to play softball. Pretty cool stuff, although I know nothing about Pitt softball.

It’s bad
But being good enough for any d-1 (or d-2 or any size school for that matter) is still a pretty awesome achievement

Yeah, they moved away like 10 years ago to NC and then VA, so we've been watching her progression through Facebook. She was playing varsity softball in like 7th grade. Goes to a Driveline like place and worked on her pitching a good bit. Should be a good add for Pitt.

Billy on the radio broadcast just called Hubert Davis the coach of the Carolina panthers. I'm going to miss this man someday

I have not followed men’s basketball so far but I assume their record was inflated playing nobodies and now they are in conference play and getting handled?
2023-2024 Pitt Super Panthers Sports Thread
they arent even getting handled. they are competitive. like last night, if they shoot even slightly better they could have had the upset. They had the looks. Syracuse it was a game where if they hit their free throws, they are in it.
Just a young team that is streaky, but if they find grooves, they can be competitive against anyone. But when their outside shooting is off, they dont have an answer to get to the basket for easy points. (and as with every pitt team ever, they cant hit freethrows)

Potentially big transfer news at the Chateau de Narduzzi.
It sounds like Pitt is very much in the driver's seat for Eli Holstein, a class of 2023 4-star QB who just entered the portal from Alabama and is visiting Pitt this weekend. Holstein is a 6'4", 220lb pro-style QB from Zachary, LA. He was a Rivals Top 150 player and the 9th-rated pro-style QB in the class of 2023. His Rivals page shows 22 P5 offers and a lot of big names - Bama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, tOSU, Oregon, A&M, you get the idea. Holstein would have four years of eligibility remaining.
This all seemed very random but from what I've parsed together from certain message boards on certain websites, there has been interest between "Pitt-related parties" and Holstein that goes back to at least October. Apparently, there may have been some connection between Kenny Pickett and Holstein, presumably from some QB camps. There's also a mostly-substantiated rumor that Holstein's dad was a guest at the Pitt-Syracuse game at Yankee Stadium. My guess is that boosters/people associated with Alliance412 (the Pitt NIL collective) handled communications until he officially announced that he was in the portal.
I'm tempering enthusiasm given the recent track record Pitt has with higher-profile transfer QBs. And in true "only Pitt" fashion, some SEC "analysts" said part of the reason he's in the portal is because Rees wanted him to move to...wait for it...TE. Half the posters on certain boards have naturally overreacted to this and already determined he can't play.
(Tangent: Someday I'm writing a book on the psychology of Panther Lair message board posters).
This appears to be a different situation. Holstein was recruited to Bama by Bill O'Brien, not Rees. Bama has a QB room full of 4-star/5-star players and they're adding another 5-star with the 2024 class. It's also been passed along that this won't be a situation where Holstein would be coming in with the starting job guaranteed.
Yarnell played well down the stretch for Pitt but nowhere near well enough for me to sit there and say, "You know what? We're good" when a kid with Holstein's offer sheet comes knocking on the door saying he wants a shot to play here. To say nothing of a new offense, this team was still 3-9 last year so everyone's roster spot should be up from grabs. Fill out the room with as many high-profile kids you can get and let the chips fall where they may, especially at QB.

Yep. Salem is reportedly already gone and it sounds it's just a matter of time before Powell and Borbely are confirmed to be let go as well.Sounds like all the offensive coaches are getting sacked except for Underwood
It makes sense. The offense stunk out loud last year so I have no issue with them cleaning house and letting Bell bring his own people on board. I can understand keeping Underwood on, given that his position probably suffered most from the crap QB play last year.

Salem is a surprise given his recruiting reputation but he's never seemed like much of a coach.

If anyone was hoping for a Pitt trip to the ncaa tournament, I think we can put that speculation to bed.
