C'mon. With several exceptions, it's pretty damn easy to spot the people that are really trying, and those that aren't.

It actually isn't. Your mother pulled herself out of the muck because she had the tools to do so. Not the money, necessarily, but the tools. You and the other "make your own luck" folks don't understand that. You think it all comes down to a narrow comparison between people on welfare and people you know IRL who managed to avoid poverty. It's far more complicated than that.

You think it all comes down to a narrow comparison between people on welfare and people you know IRL who managed to avoid poverty. It's far more complicated than that.

I mean, my mom didn't avoid poverty, and I think I've stated ITT that we received aid. I was a recipient of a state/federal program. There is absolutely a VERY important role in this country that social welfare programs provide...a safety net, if you will. All I've stated is that I am against the reckless expansion of them.

What they're protesting against represents the ignorance and exploitation of disenfranchised Americans who have once again been swindled and thrown away by "the man".

I think that's more along the lines of all that is wrong with this country.

That's not all you've stated. You've effectively stated that the lazy slobs on their couches should be more like your mom and less like their moms.
