Ugh...this is reminiscent of that ridiculous game in Cleveland several years ago when the Browns were terrible, but the Steelers had 8 turnovers or something and blew the game.

Re: it not being a safety, is that because it would have been a touchback had it been recovered? It's one thing if we would have fumbled it in our own end zone, but maybe because a recovery would have been a TB it wasn't?

Because he fumbled into the end zone? That's my only guess. It's different that a QB or punter fumbling the ball in his own end zone and then batting it out. In this case the ball was fumbled on the one and advanced forward into the end zone. That's my only guess.

I am just flabbergasted as to how you can give the ball back to the Bears after it is fumbled through the end zone, regardless of the illegal bat. Guarantee it will come out that was the incorrect call.
