Kennywood just announced that the Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Bayern Kurve, and Volcano are being retired. This park keeps getting worse.
The Bayern Kurve was one of only six operating in the world. Maybe they'll use the extra space to build a new food stand that will be closed 90% of the time.

Nooooooo, not the Bayern Kurve

Every one of those rides are rare and part of what gives Kennywood its charm. I know that park has been going downhill for a while, but to lose all four of those at once is a blow. What an awful decision.

The Kangaroo was my favorite ride as a child before I had the guts to ride roller coasters. RIP 'roo

I'm pissed about this. Like nocera said, those rides are what gives Kennywood it's charm. Seems like the new owner is getting rid of what makes Kennywood and wants to turn it into a Cedar Point Jr or something.
My family is upset with the Kangaroo and Paratroopers. Those were my kids 2 favorite rides as they transistioned from kiddie land to "big kid" rides. Those were ones we always had to hit, even as they got older. We always rode them as a family.
I think the Kangaroo was the last operational version of that ride.

All of those rides were great "transitional type" rides. Things that kids wanted to ride as they got out of kiddie land and before they'd ride the big coasters, etc.The Kangaroo was my favorite ride as a child before I had the guts to ride roller coasters. RIP 'roo
Always great family rides tucked away. Like someone else said, they'll probably put in another food stand or game area that is never open. Maybe they are opening up that land where the paratroopers and kanagroo sat and will put in some "bigger" ride. Which I still won't be happy about.

Wonder how much they'd want or if they'd even be willing to sell the Kangaroo...

Yep and that will fail. They don't have the money or the land to compete with Cedar Point. I'd much rather them lean into the family/vintage park. I thought they were headed that way with the return of the whale's mouth and Old Mill.Source of the post Seems like the new owner is getting rid of what makes Kennywood and wants to turn it into a Cedar Point Jr or something.

Said that one of the reasons to retire those 4 are because it is difficult to get parts and keep up with maintenance. Screw you. There are paratroopers everywhere.
And the Kangaroo was the last one of it's kind.
Personally, I don't care about the other two. The Enterprise was always closed. And we prefer the musicexpress over the Curve.

Places like Knoebels and Idlewild have been very successful in that niche. Hate to see Kennywood go the opposite direction.Yep and that will fail. Charge more for fewer rides. Sounds like a good plan.

Never been to Kennywood. I'm not much of an amusement-park guy. I think the last time I was in one was my senior-class trip to Cedar Point when I was in high school, and that would have been 26 years ago.

The last time I went to Kennywood was my senior year of high school, 1991 shortly after the Steel Phantom opened.

We go to Kennywood a few times a summer and also for Christmas lights. I still enjoy going especially with my niece's and nephew.

The Kangaroo was from 1928 or so and tucked behind a shrubbery. It’s not bothering anyone and it’s footprint isn’t enough to put a “better” ride in it’s place. KEEP IT!
Is the Turtle next?
This is definitely about the character of the park for me.

The kangaroo is fun for everyone. Gr8 transition ride for the kiddos. Gr8 for big families that want to ride one ride together. Gr8 for older kids and adults that want to squash the eff out of some unsuspecting out of towner friend.
Hoping to get That last jump off the jump thing when the ride was over was a very underrated KW thrill.
