Thanks NTP66. Kinda glad they are sold out. I would have probably looked seriously at getting one.

Actually, it's not on sale yet - goes on sale for VIP members on 1 March. So you're still in luck.

No doubt, I think it’s a bastardization of the most beautiful Corvette ever created (IMO).

What don't you like about the Miata? My disdain for the MX5 brought into violent conflict with my love the Stingray.

Personally, I really like the RF model. (Yeah, I know Miatas are supposed to be convertibles, but I sunburn like a vampire. I'd actually prefer a coupe version, but I know Mazda has promised to never make one.) I'm waiting to see when used/certified models drop down to say $15,000 or less. Although I'll need to make sure my fat behind can fit in one.

I know I'm supposed to like the Miata, but I just don't. Never liked the styling (altho the current-gen looks nice, as does all of their current line imo), and I have a friend who was nearly killed in one. So perhaps there's a bit of irrationality there, but I've just always sort of recoiled at them.

The fact that the only Miata I ever even thought would be worth buying is whittled down to one of the 197 made in the link above should tell you how much I enjoy them.

You're also a fairly big dude who maybe shouldn't be considering those types of rides, generally.
Give you a clue: That friend who was almost killed in one? She's 4'10" and she ended up with road rash on her forehead in the accident.

I really like my Miata. I bought it new in 1991 ($17,000 out door). Hardly broke in now with 32,000 miles. Plenty of power and handles simply great. Nothing broke yet.

Funny, the only two people I ever knew that owned Miatas were both 6’3”. One of them also had a Neon ACR.

Yeah. I mentioned before I finally test fit one at PIAS. Just too much torso. My interest is that there is a YUGE amateur racing following with Miata so it's easy to find large fields. That said the only way I could do it is to run in a series that allows for high roll bars and open cockpit.
I'll stick to my fat pig BMWs.

Unrelated really but I've been watching the Neon SRT4 market. The values are surprisingly high. One of them also had a Neon ACR.

I'm not nearly that tall. I'm just wide. Which admittedly would probably be more of a problem with a Miata.
As a JDM car, I don't think that Miata could be legally imported until its 25 years old, which would be 2028. Although one can now legally buy something like this 1991 Honda Beat Mugen:

For what it's worth the one I sat in last weekend was more restrictive heightwise than width. I'm 278 pounds right now and the only reason I couldn't realistically drive the car is because the top of the windshield is in my eye line.
I urge you to go sit in one sometime.

Yeah, road rash friend was into some amateur series or other. (Not with the car she rolled, but with a team-owned ride)My interest is that there is a YUGE amateur racing following with Miata so it's easy to find large fields.

Last night was rough in our house. That polyaspartic top coat has a very strong odor, and since we had to keep the garage doors closed so that nothing blew into it and got into the resin, our entire just reeks of it. It's better today, and I was able to open both garage doors. I'm hoping that a few hours like this airs out enough where the rest of the house doesn't smell like chemicals.

Sorry to hear about the stench, but as they say, "no pain, no gain".

if I were to consider getting a Miata, it would have to be with this setup: https://www.rocketworkscars.com/
10k for the parts, 13k if they install, or you can buy something built by them for 20k.
The Mazda MX5 Miata needs no introduction to sportscar enthusiasts. Perfect balance, light weight, and telepathic handling have helped to make the Miata the best selling sports car of all time. In fact, more Miatas are raced in America than any other car.
Most will agree, while the Miata’s modest power does not detract from the driving experience, it will certainly benefit from more power! The Rocketeer MXV6 engine conversion kit for the NA and NB Miata doubles the power and torque with no weight gain, while preserving the brilliant Miata handling dynamics and retaining the excellent Miata transmission, powerplant frame, and differential.
The MXV6 conversion kit is engineered and manufactured to extremely high standards in England by tuning specialists Rocketeer Ltd. At the heart of the conversion is a 287bhp all-aluminum four-cam Jaguar V6.
