It blows my mind someone can start a round with seven consecutive birdies and finish -6 on the day. Golf is a cruel mistress.

The front 9 vs the back 9 here is a huge difference. Of those first 7, 5 of them are birdie holes and 2 of those are potential eagles. 8 is where things begin to get difficult and holes 10-14 are 5 of the top 9 toughest on the course. Munoz played those in even par. He just wasn’t able to capitalize on 17 and 18. He actually doubled 9 from 155 out in the fairway (welcome to our world) after hitting a pathetic approach out to the right and then 3-putting from 20 feet.It blows my mind someone can start a round with seven consecutive birdies and finish -6 on the day. Golf is a cruel mistress.
I asked him afterward if that’s his best birdie streak. It’s not. He said he made 8 in a row at a LatinoAmerica event a few years ago. Most I have ever made in a round is 3. I can’t imagine 8 in a round, let alone them being consecutive.

8 in a round would be really boring and you would play really fast

Scottie Scheffler with a 59 today. It’s the 5th time I’ve been in attendance for a sub-60 round.

And don’t look now but DJ starts birdie-eagle-birdie-eagle-birdie

I don't know where they're playing but it sounds pretty easy, imo.

TPC Boston. See my post above describing it. DJ must have read it. Winning scores here have typically been in the high teens under par. Just have had perfect conditions these first 1 1/2 rounds.I don't know where they're playing but it sounds pretty easy, imo.

DJ -11 thru 11. Just needs -1 in last 7 to match Scheffler.

a 57 would be the lowest on the tour ever right?

Holy crap....what a round from DJ so far.
I thought Scheffler had some serious game from watching him at the PGA. Impressive.

July 8, 2010 - John Deere Classic - Paul Goydos shoots 59 in the morning, Steve Stricker shoots 60 in afternoon.
August 21, 2020 - Northern Trust - Scottie Scheffler and Dustin Johnson repeat the feat.
I was there for both.

Kind of disappointed DJ didn't have a better back 9. I know it's tougher but still.

DJ just blitzing the field. This is a 2000s Tiger performance

I believe Els has the all time record for lowest score to par in a 72 hole PGA event (-31 at the 2003 Mercedes). DJ might come close.

If this were baseball, it could be considered pretty close to a perfect game, certainly it would be a no-hitter or a 1-hit shutout. He was #2 off the tee, #1 from tee-to-green, #1 in approach, #1 in proximity, and just #9 in putting. I felt like he missed a number of birdie putts throughout the week or he could have been -33, -34. He said it's probably the best he's ever played. If he can play any better, I wanna see it. It's so good that it had Kevin Kisner saying that he just gets out of the way and works on his bank account and Harry Higgs said that he was just trying to win the B flight because the A flight was already spoken for. I like when I can get guys to say stuff that make for easy quotes.

Lefty is already making hay on the Champions tour. Shot a 61 in the first round and currently a two shot lead over Mediate. If he plays that tour with regularity, I bet he could rack up a lot of majors.
On another note, Bernhard Langer's longevity is damn impressive. He's 62 and has won five Champions events (including last year's Senior British Open) in the last two years.
@Orlando Penguin, how do Champions courses typically differ from the regular tour. I assume shorter holes is a main difference?

Maybe they're just easier courses that don't have all that much rough. Here are the yardages for the courses they've played for 2020's events:
Hualalai -- 7107
Morocco -- 7309
Chubb (giggity) -- 6845
Cologuard (shitbag open) -- 7218
Hoag --6606
Ally -- 7085
Sr. Players --7400
Bass Pro --7036
This week -- 7036
The only outlier thus far was Sr. Players, which was played at Firestone and was just as difficult for the Seniors as it was for the regular Tour players. Firestone had the rough grown up and there were only 3 players, I believe, that were under par.

6600 seems short in comparison. Is Hoag more of a positional/angles type of course?
