Muprhy will sometimes only eat food once he exhausts all other options like sitting and staring at us while we eat, or staring at the leftover food on the stove. Only once we are done and all is put away will he walk over and eat his food begrudgingly haha.
Now when he gets wet food like in the mornings before he goes to camp...he eats that in seconds.

My dogs inhale, and we have those slow eating maze bowls because they kept eating so fast that they'd throw up all the time.
Pet Thread
Same, Gracie used to finish a plain bowl in like 30 seconds tops. We got her the maze thing and now it's like... 2 minutes tops. You can't even mention "food" or "treat" within earshot without her getting riled up.

Carlin would sometimes sit on the floor next to the bowl while she ate. Super lazy.
Lily would start bugging us for dinner around half an hour early, so matter what time of year (so it wasn't like a Circadian/sundial thing). She'd paw at our legs and whimper. "Hey, um...... food time, yes?" Then when we got up, she'd do her full panoply of behaviors like some weird canine Catholic - Sit! Stand! Spin! Sit again! Spin spin spin! Lay down! Pop back up! We had to get one of those bowls that obstructs access to a food a bit to slow down how fast she ate, cos she'd chronically choke herself on her food. This was every single meal time for almost all 10 years she was with us.
Moo gets very excited when the closet door opens up, investigating the goings on. Then trots over and sits patiently next to her bowl. And then she eats the entire thing in about 4 chomps.

Hah, Lily's routine sounds like a more elaborate deal than Ava's. When Ava sees me grab the bowl she shakes like she just came in from the rain, then goes to the living room and does a few laps rubbing on the couch/ottoman. I'll put her food down and she'll look at it before meandering away to take a nap.
I'm not ruling out that she has some real selective dementia. She just does some weird stuff.

We have the special honor of having one dog that inhales food and one that is “catlike” and eats on her own terms - typically at like 2 am. So we feed one at a normal time then put food down for a second one before heading upstairs for bed.

How do you keep the inhaler from eating the other's food?We have the special honor of having one dog that inhales food and one that is “catlike” and eats on her own terms - typically at like 2 am. So we feed one at a normal time then put food down for a second one before heading upstairs for bed.

I don’t have an answer here. The inhaler was our first dog and was the only dog for about 18 months. When #2 came along, we added a second food bowl and gave the older dog a stern ‘No!’ when he went to eat out of it the first day. And we have never had an issue since.

One thing that has hit me sort of hard lately with having an older dog is that he used to poop way down in the yard near the back fence. Now he only makes it about half way deep into the yard. Weird thing that made me sad today when I went out to pick up

One of our cats is obsessed with my fish. Every morning when I make coffee, he stands on the kitchen table and screams at me. So I go over and pet him, and he's purring up a storm, then guides me over to the living room chair where he sits down and stares at my saltwater tank, yelling until I feed my fish. Then he just watches him/her eat.

Has anyone ever seen MR25 and meow in the same room at the same time?

Aw man, funny how stuff like that hits you. Molly has always been a respectful pooper, keeping it around the fringes of the yard. She still does, but I know what you mean. One thing that has hit me sort of hard lately with having an older dog is that he used to poop way down in the yard near the back fence. While I was away, apparently she had a baby bunny cornered in the garage that my wife had to rescue. Even at nearly 12 years old, she is still a murderdoodle

Yeah. At 15, he still is able to get a lizard every few days. He’s become more savvy in his elder years, but the dog still huntsAw man, funny how stuff like that hits you.
