COVID arm is a little tender today. Flu arm is fine. No vax card requested.

This is the most mild reaction I've had to the COVID/Flu combo. I got it yesterday and only have a bit of arm soreness and a headache. I assume later in the day the headache will become more intense. I did pound a ton of Gatorade yesterday.

I took off work anyway, no reason to sit and stare at a bank of monitors for 8 hours when I can watch Twilight Zone and day drink instead.

Yeah, I had a pretty annoying headache for a couple days post-COVID+flu. It was the first time I experienced a headache side effect, but also the first time I did the COVID+flu 1-2, and we had also switched from Pfizer to Moderna (because of availability).

(I also had the cluster of aches, chills, fatigue, etc that I've come to expect from COVID vax)

I was basically good to go. Just sore arms lol. I pounded Gatorade Zeroes before hand though.

We tested positive this morning.

My coworker just got back from his COVID time away. He's semi-retired and largely just kicks around the lab doing experiments and reporting what he's learned. Anyways, he said this was his first round with COVID. His wife brought it back from a girls trip to Ocean City. He was on Paxlovid and said he was glad he was because he was absolutely miserable for a couple days. I'm glad there's vaccines (and boosters), but I'm also glad there's additional protection after you get sick in the form of some prescription, non-horse deworming medicine, drug.

I feel like Pfizer recently jacked the price up for Paxlovid. At least, I saw a lot of complaining about something like that.

I got the joint COVID/flu vaccines yesterday. a little bleh today but not too bad of a reaction


though I learned that Moderna re-named their vaccine "SPIKEVAX" which is...abysmal...

Mrs Tif traveled to Florida the following week; came home and got sick a few days later; five days after that I started coming down with symptoms and spent this past weekend sick. We tested negative twice last week. I was even joking about being non-COVID sick in the non-COVID sick thread.

She was going into the office today for a big meeting with people from all over the country (so the second such gathering in two weeks), and I said we should test before she went in for that. Both positive.

I absolutely hated Paxlovid. I'd have to have pretty low pulseO2 to go back on that stuff. it put the absolute worst metallic taste in my mouth for 3+ days. cinnamon gum was the only thing that saved me.

I am basically fully recovered from this recent bout. Only thing left is the fatigue, but as far as COVID goes, it was relatively minor compared to the last two times I had it, plus vaccinations.

I am non-boosted for this recent round too, but plan to do that in a month or so now.

Wife has it now, she's about the same as I was. Only frustrating thing is that her family insisted on coming over and handing out candy so she could take my son out trick-or-treating. I feel guilty about that, but we warned them that it's enter at your own risk. Hopefully nobody else gets sick.

That's good to hear. (I mean, for me) Had a tele-health visit w my Dr yesterday and he said that as long as symptoms are resolving on their own I could continue just treating them (e.g. Mucinex), and let my vax-boosted immune system deal with the COVID. No need for Pax. Said the side effects of using Pax for mild cases outweigh the incremental benefit.

We've both tested negative every day this week, but are both still feeling shortness of breath and constriction in the throat. I hope that isn't a super long-term thing.

I felt like pooh for a week or two after I tested negative. Like you said, hopefully it doesn't go on much longer.

I went back to normal after like 3-4 days. Sucks to hear that.

UPMC to require masking in all facilities beginning December 20th due to rise in Covid, influenza and RSV.

My wife who works at upmc mentioned the other day there was talk this was going to happen soon.

AFAIK UCLA Health never stopped requiring indoor masking.

Mrs Tif is dealing with what I'm guessing are long COVID aftereffects. With her underlying pulmonary function issues, this is not entirely unexpected, but it's still Sucksville.

I prefer it when hospitals and doctors offices require masks.

Coincidentally, one of my wife's friends has RSV. Hadn't heard of a healthy adult catching it in forever.

A friend of mine's newborn went into the hospital for five days with RSV. The whole house ended up with it and it sounded like misery.

FWIW, the urgent care where my son went last week with the flu required masks.

I got my vasectomy in early April 2023. The building that urology was in required masking when I went in for the procedure. Early July, when I dropped my sample off, masks were no longer required.

No clue about other areas or other health systems, but that was Mt. Nittany's policy.

Wait a second. Vasectomy sidebar: They didn't give me the option of a drop off. I have a jack it appointment scheduled next month.
