My friend was staunchly against ordering the Westvleteren because there wasn't any proof that it was sanctioned by the monastery... he did order quite a few of those beers I listed from there, and did receive them.

Helltown makes some decent beers, but I believe they have some real consistency problems. Idle Hands is a good dipa and the brown and porter are ok. They used to make a saison I liked. I have heard their sherry cask aged beer is really terrible.

2 untappd checkins in 2 years, so I don't think so.

I ordered from Beer of Belgium. Seeing as how i've never seen a legit bottle of Westy 12 up close, and cant' seem to get a clear photo on the monastery's site, it will be interesting to see what arrives at my house.

I know that the Westy monastery is uber strict that you can only buy it there and reselling is contract breach.

So, basically, i really just need to go there some day.

Yeah, that was where we got the Tre Fontaine, the La Trappes that aren't typically imported, and such.

I believe the beer that you get will be legitimate in the sense of being what you ordered... Legitimate in terms of sanctioned by the Monastery... That is unknown.

I picked up some of this:

It's probably just as bad as I remember it, but it occupies a certain space of nostalgia for a time that won't be repeated (otherwise).

That about checks out. Idle Hands is their best effort, with some other stuff being serviceable.
Highly recommend Dancing Gnome Better One or Two, which is coming back on tomorrow. Might be my favorite Pittsburgh beer.
Dancing Gnome is great. I think it's been mentioned by others before, but they're what Grist House should be (in terms of quality).

One of the breweries in the area (Elk Creek, if anyone is familiar), brings a beer truck to the local farmer's market. I took my growler today and get a fill. She filled it about 7/8 of the way and the keg kicked... she said "it's not the whole way filled, it's on the house, unless you want me to dump it and fill it with something else". Score. It's not the best beer in the world, but it's beer, and that's about all you'll get in the State College area.

7%+ IPAs are really not suitable all day drinkers. I'm just saying.

Had the final beer from the Ovila pack I got late last year... this was a Saison brewed with Sage. It was good. The sage was definitely present, though I didn't find it to be overpowering. It became significantly more noticeable as it warmed.

Might be interesting to have a bottle w/ thanksgiving dinner.

Overall was a pretty darn good pack. Not currently being made, but hopefully they decide to bring it back.

By dinner time last night (roughly the start of the second period) I was proper buzzed. Like, where I considered telling Mrs Tif that perhaps it wouldn't be wise for me be handling a knife for dinner prep.

Nah. Sunday is a bad day for me.

I'm annoyed though cuz I'd like to try that Raspberry Berliner Weisse style beer.

Elk Creek makes some good beers. I didn't know they had a beer truck. Probably a good idea for them since they're in the middle of nowhere.

Yup... their beers are much like all the other places in this area. It's very drinkable beer, but nothing where I'm craving it and need to go back and have that beer again. I think they started the beer truck last summer and have been hitting up farmers markets and other events in the State College area.

Had a few Dark Thread Porters yesterday. Chocolate oat porter; dessert in a can.

Quite enjoyable.
