COVID-19

Postby tifosi77 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 6:06 pm

Did they ever determine what it was about COVID that caused the sensory loss? That strikes me and my super non-medically trained brain as an odd symptom cluster for a respiratory illness. I guess it if lives and makes its little disease babies in the sinuses that makes some sense, but other stuff like that doesn't cause taste and smell to go away.

I had a couple of things I couldn't taste or smell when I had it a couple of months ago. Couldn't smell my deodorant or citrus flavored things like flavored seltzer water. Everything else was fine.

I've had COVID 3 times that I know of, and all 3 times I never lost my sense of taste or smell. It's just weird how it affects everyone so differently.

Metallic taste for sure was one of them, but I didn't lose all taste.
Anybody hear anything about the new strains and test accuracy? Daughter started allergy symptoms last Wednesday, son yesterday. Both tested negative though and aren't as knocked on their butt as I am.
We've had a decent amount of wildfire smoke and high pollen so I can rationalize it, but I hate the idea of pausing life for no reason roughly as much as I hate the idea of getting other people sick. Sent my son off with a mask at least which I'm sure will raise eyebrows.

Still no updated boosters in Somerset. They probably figure no one here will get it anyway.

Tony do you have any CVS or Wallgreens in Somerset? For the moment they're the only places that have new boosters where I live (both Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna).

There is a CVS. I didn't call them because the last time I went there for a flu vaccine it took 90 minutes. I'll check though. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I wasn't happy.

I checked with CVS and they're expecting vaccines on Friday. Hopefully someone else gets them in the meantime.

Still waiting for the test. Now, by 10pm.

Are you taking any medications? I take mucinex when I have sinus issues and it often makes my nose bleed

Heart meds but not a blood thinner outside of baby aspirin.

Mucinex doesn't work.

My cousin, who is a pathologist, firmly believes that Covid-19 is more of a blood disease than anything else, and that a significant reason that it can be so damaging is that it causes abnormal blood clotting. Some people are more vulnerable to that clotting than others. She also believes that long Covid is a result of that abnormal blood clotting in vulnerable individuals, which basically produces microscopic strokes throughout the body. She recommends that anyone with Covid take aspirin, which works as an anticolagulent. She also recommends the supplement Quercetin, which in multiple studies has demonstrated improved outcomes in terms of respiratory function for those with Covid-19.

Interesting. I don’t really use it for nasal congestion. It’s more for the chest congestion I get this sinus infections. It seems to loosen that up. Maybe the placebo effect

I might've but I think it was because I was constantly blowing my nose and it cracked a capillary or 2

They’re offering the Covid shot along with the flu shot at work on a Friday. I’ll get the flu shot that day, but no way am I ruining my weekend with the Covid shot. I’ll get it somewhere else on a Sunday and take a day off if needed.

Hes wrong. They say phenylephrine doesn't work. Guaifenisin works - that's the chest congestion drug in mucinex

My delivery now says "Running Late."

Why promise 1 day delivery if you can't do that.

Mucinex doesn't react well with my body. I took it last week with my upper respiratory infection and it dehydrated me to a dangerous level. this was the second time I've had that happen. I thought the first time was a fluke.
