COVID-19

Postby MR25 » Thu Sep 14, 2023 10:28 pm

Did you only just test positive today? I had a similar experience with my bout exactly a year ago - Monday was fine, little stuffy. Tuesday woke up feeling worse, tested positive. Tuesday evening I took a nap and woke up with a 105 fever. Went back down before I went to sleep. Never hit past 102 after that, so you might be in the clear.
This sound exactly like yesterday and today so far, so hopefully the worst is behind me. Muscle aches are the worst.

Hopefully you don't get the same sore throat I ended up with. Probably the worst I've had in my memory.

Worst than strep throat where it feels like you're swallowing glass.

Huh. I didn't have any sore throat, but I did totally lose my voice for a couple days. Other than that, sounds like a similar trajectory. I had a fever for a couple days, then it went down, and it turned into more of a cold. I certainly hope you get over it faster than I did, though. I was still testing positive and having mild symptoms for nearly two weeks.

I can deal with a lot of ailments but a bad sore throat is just sheer misery. Good luck obhave!

Yep, I'd rather break my wrist again than go through a sore throat.

And the baby has a fever of 102... our pediatrician said she has seen a huge surge in cases in the past 10 days.

Anyone get the new booster yet? I checked around and none of the local pharmacies had it yet. Most thought they'd be in next week though.

i was gonna make a similar post

honestly at this point it’s like the year flu shot. There’s gonna be a lot of people who don’t get it but that’s silly to me. Unless you struggle with getting sick time from work (just in case it hits you hard), there’s not a good reason to not get it imo; similar to how not getting the flu vaccine won’t kill you but still will protect you

But the flu shot is only 30% effective at preventing the flu!!! Pass…

For real though, I’ve heard this analogy before: flu sucks. If you could give me an injection that will reduce my risk of getting punched in the face by 20, 30, 40%… I’m taking it.

I'll be getting the new COVID booster in a month or so. That'll be enough time away from when I had it early July for it to be most effective over the winter. Flu shot as well.

Tested positive this afternoon.
Sandy throat, but other than that like a combo hit of allergies/a cold.
Not a lot of aches, but definitely fatigued (was in bed at 9 yesterday and took a two hour nap this afternoon).

Hope you’re seeing the light at the end obhave.

I leave for Italy Wednesday and I'm afraid I'm gonna come down with it before. Especially with the funeral and everything, I shook a million hands this week.

I am actually more scared of getting it in country. Although I don't think you need a negative test to fly home anymore.

Also true but just not even being able to go at all would be a kick in the nuts

What are the latest initial symptoms of covid? I woke up today with a scratchy throat, runny nose, and slight cough.

I need to get a test kit.

I felt like I was getting a head cold - lots of congestion and associated issues (sinus pressure, headache, blocked ears). Then the fever/chills/aches started. The cough and runny nose came on day 2.

I don’t think there’s really a set progression or even symptoms. Basically if you feel like you have a cold/flu, may as well take a test.

All the local drug stores out of tests. Just ordered from Amazon and they said it will be here tomorrow.

Is loss of taste and smell still a thing with the new strains?

I’ve read the opposite. Loss of taste/smell is rare with these new variants only present in something like 5% of cases.
