I feel like if you don't like potatoes or have a low opinion of them, generally, you have no idea how to prepare them properly.

It's also worth pointing out that yams and sweet potatoes are not the same.

Also, mashed potatoes are great. Just ensure that you soak them for a few hours before cooking them to remove excess starch, and don't over-whip them.

Wife and I are hosting her family tomorrow night, and my sister and BIL Thursday. 2 separate dinners. Her mom is bringing some of the side dishes for tomorrow, but we're pretty much providing everything for thursday. The food prep is one thing, but cleaning the entire house today and tomorrow morning, then having to make sure everything is cleaned up and prepped for thursday is gonna be a chore. In fingers crossed news...our new dishwasher was installed yesterday and will most likely get the baptism by fire treatment over the next 72 hours.
I am tasked with cleaning the turkeys, peeling potatoes, and most likely the gravy...and drinks. Other than those things, I am not permitted in the kitchen. lol.
As for side dishes, my wife crushes stuffing, so that's usually my favorite.

yeah but I don't want potato flavored and hot ice cream
I'll eat mashed potatoes (and baked potatoes for that matter since thye're similar) but roasted potatoes or some other potato dishes like au gratin are always preferred for me

My wife makes them all the time, and makes them well. They're just not worth the calories. I'll eat them in very specific scenarios. A baked potato with a steak for example - but I put oil salt and pepper on the skin and crisp it up and put a **** ton of butter and sour cream on it"Hundreds of years ago" lol

I didn't say **** about the flavor or the temperature. You said it's baby food. I can always assume that folks don't want hot ice cream.
Also, how is a baked potato similar to mashed potatoes...? I mean, other than the potato part of course...but there seems to be a consistency thing here. Aren't roasted potatoes and baked potatoes more similar...?

Oddly, I'd eat mashed before roasted, but after baked.

Mashed potatoes are overrated. They are a solid role player, but no way should they be in the elite category.

They won the original poll by a wide margin. But, like you say, as a role-playing staple but not the star.Mashed potatoes are overrated. They are a solid role player, but no way should they be in the elite category.

I don't care for yams, but my mom has a sweet potato souflee recipe she makes that I enjoy. Probably because it no longer really resembles the original ingredient.

I think sweet potatoes have a bigger payoff at the top, but there's a much smaller window for them to be good. It's like a boom or bust prospect for me.

You had them ranked 2nd, and "noodles" 4th (dafuq?)They won the original poll by a wide margin. But, like you say, as a role-playing staple but not the star.Mashed potatoes are overrated. They are a solid role player, but no way should they be in the elite category.

Soaking them in water doesn't remove a ton of starch unless you cut them into small enough pieces. The starch you're removing is surface level only. It doesn't actually penetrate the potato and remove starch. If you were blindfolded, my guess is you'd not be able to tell the difference between soaked for hours vs rinsed quickly before boil. Also, mashed potatoes are great. Just ensure that you soak them for a few hours before cooking them to remove excess starch, and don't over-whip them.
You're better off concentrating on buying the correct potato type and having a better mashing technique (riced or food mill).

I'm talking about cut up potatoes (1" cubes), if you're assuming I mean just throwing full potatoes into a bowl of water like a clown.
