Yeah, that was an ugly way to lose it. Survived squandering that lead and then literally threw the game away. Does UNC have a coach? Or just some dude that gives WWE interviews?

Summed up the entire second half.

Final analysis...

Baylor showed UNC's vulnerability when they sic'd their press on them when down 25 in that 2nd round game and got the game to OT. Kansas was able to speed things up on defense and force Carolina into some really ugly possessions. Then they got the shots to fall and Remy Martin was HUUUUUUGE with those 3's. Meanwhile, 2nd half Caleb couldn't even get a damn layup to go. I've never seen someone struggle that badly in a big spot at least since John Starks in Game 7 of the 94 Finals. But I think the biggest thing that hurt Carolina was Kansas knew Bacot wasn't a threat at the offensive end with that ankle getting worse so it allowed their guards to neutralize what White and Love were trying to do. Plus, Manek was a non-factor in the 2nd half.

As for the 'what Hubert Davis is like as a coach', I think you can probably gauge that based on how his team performed in the final 2 months of the season. They were dead and gone after getting blown out by Pitt at home. After that debacle, they found a stride and Hubert adjusted to the situation. This team tonight just ran out of gas and their best player was probably about 50% if that.

Final play -- that was supposed to go to Manek on a crosscourt pass off a screen at the elbow but Manek slipped and stumbled his way along the baseline to the floor. That broke up the entire sync. Love had a decent look but had zero oomph. After playing 40 minutes vs Duke on Saturday night and probably 37+ tonight, those legs may have been dead, which may have also contributed to his poor shooting night.

Fun game. No dog in the fight and just wanted to see a great game. Would have loved overtime for my over bet but I've been on the losing end plenty of times for this not to be a surprise.

I love how dramatic betting makes these games when I don’t care about college basketball one iota. Jayhawks didn’t cover but the second half under hit.

Jay Wright hangs it up from Villanova after an amazing career with 2 national titles and 4 Final Fours. It's another dent to a college basketball landscape that's going to need as much veteran leadership as it can get over the next year or so navigating these NIL/transfer portal infested waters.

Seems like the veterans are getting out before the craziness begins. There was a line in the article about how he was more sure than ever he didn't want to go to the NBA.

I say this as a grad of a school that made the Sweet 16 on the strength of the portal and appears to be crushing it again- they need to get the portal stuff under control.

Is the transfer portal stuff temporary/covid related or is this just how it works now?

Both. With kids having an extra year, coaches have a numbers crunch and simply don't have room for returning seniors that didn't produce well. So they're in the portal now. Also, the one time transfer without sitting a year rule is new, so I'd imagine it slows down a tick because all these guys can't transfer again now without sitting a year.

Either way, big whoop. Kids should have the choice imo. Akron lost one of their better players to Butler, but good for him

Ah I didn't know you could transfer without sitting only once.

Honestly I'm pretty conflicted. As a fan it's annoying, but like... these are college kids. They should be able to go wherever the F they want

I've disliked how it's pretty much free agency now and guys basically just quit and look elsewhere if they're not getting the playing time they think they should be getting or they feel like the coach isn't getting them enough exposure so they can get to the NBA. Amazingly, players nowadays are still as dense as ever to the odds of actually making an NBA roster. If you're good enough, you'll get noticed no matter where you are. That being said, I think they should have the freedom to go wherever they want and whenever they want. Coaches take millions at the drop of a hat and run off to other jobs all the time (just look at Neptune jumping Fordham's ship after one year so he can take the Villanova job). In some ways, I think the transfer portal has made the game better because good players who may have been overlooked coming out of high school are now taking advantage of their one good year at St. Francis NY and parlaying that into a starting job at a bigger-conference school. Does that suck for the St. Francis NYs of the world? Sure it does. But they have the ability to reload just as easily. Where it sucks is for that fringe high schooler who may have had 7-10 really good offers during his senior year. He may only have 2-3 now because coaches are going to recruit the portal first before looking at the high school side. That means rosters are going to be more experienced which hopefully leads to better balance and better competition across the country.

Do you also laugh like I do when some of these transfers put '110% committed' on their tweets? Oh, just like you were 110% committed to your previous stop(s)?

That is a really good get by Cooley. He's picked up a couple of pretty good transfers in this cycle.

Yeah, good for the players getting paid, but this is just about killing my interest in college sports. I'm not an idealist but this all seems especially soulless.
