Palacios making a case for a bench spot anyway. Idk how he's a negative WAR guy, he seems to produce in big spots. 39 rbi
Andujar also with a strong showing to close out the year.

These two should learn first base, wide open opportunity for either of them to win a starting role for this team at that position

I mean, yes, but the Cubs aren't that much better than the Pirates.

Sweep the reds, do whatever against the Phillies. Then get swept by the marlins.

Pirates could single-handedly keep the reds and cubs out of the playoffs

They should tank to keep the cubs out after that chirp.

Plus then they'll be 72-90 and your boy will have been right all along!

Proud isn't the word but very happy with how they've closed out the season instead of mailing it in

The bench is going to be really interesting next year. Assuming cruz returns to short, you have to figure this:

9 primary starters: Endy, 1b signing, peguero, cruz, hayes, Reynolds, suwinski, Davis, cutch

4 backups:
1. Delay
2. Infielder (triolo, marcano, gonzales, williams)
3. Outfielder (bae, Joe, andujar, palacios)
4. Flex

Basically you're looking at the above mentioned 8 names competing for 3 spots, and that's without any additional acquisitions besides a "starting" first baseman. Going to be hard without injury for either Palacios or andujar to earn a spot. I'd guess both are behind Bae and Joe, though Palacios LH bat could help.

I wish cutch could play in the field. He's not a good enough hitter at this point to spend a roster spot on DH-only. But, he's significantly better than every other one of those names so it kinda is what it is.

Joe is a lock for one of those bench spots. And I think there may be room for 5 on the bench, but I haven't been paying too close of attention. Have they been rolling an 8 or 7 man bullpen this year?

All those guys are on the 40-man, it might just be a revolving door type situation, especially for Pegeuro, Triolo, Marcano, Gonzales, Williams, Bae, Andujar and Palacios.

I have no reason to believe Peguero isn't a full time MLB player and probably next year's starting 2nd baseman

Nice catch, and reaction from those in the area, by the kid on the Davis HR.

Since the low point of the season (41-54) they have played to a 32-27 record

I'm impressed at how they've closed out this season. Pirates teams of years passed would have just tanked at that low point. They've kept fighting and are doing it without their veteran leader.

Hayes has mvp numbers in his last 60+ games. Over a .900 ops with his defense would be an absurd war total.

He’s offensive resurgence, and endy taking over the catching duties has given the team a boost to close out this season.

I like the confidence, Hayes and Reynolds look like core guys and there is a ton of room for growth in that room with all the rookies and Cruz returning.

The rotation situation will be different I think. This year was more relying on unproven players (Oviedo, Roansy, and Ortiz). I think the depth will be addressed so that they aren’t having to rely on skenes, Jones, Roansy, Ortiz, priester, but that those guys will be able to earn the innings.

The objective was to take the step forward this season and track as much as possible with the orioles path. The orioles got there this year by fleecing the twins last deadline, cause honestly I don’t think their position player group is that great.

Yeah, it seems he gets a timely hit or two every game these days. Man, if he could maintain that and his defense..

I don't follow baseball much outside of the Pirates and I've never heard of him.

The prerequisites for getting a statue have really declined.

Losing 9-0 after 3. Leading 13-11 after 8 innings.
