Watched the illumination Grinch movie and it has become one of my favorite Christmas movies after seeing it last year. Wide range of emotions with that one. 8 bit sounds like I need to watch, I've never heard of it

Venom 2 took everything that was good about the first movie and went with that. bravo. This was a blast.

New Ghostbusters was also fun, I really enjoyed the younger cast.

I enjoyed it as well. It was just fun action/comedy with a darker tint.

That tie in at the end with Strange’s spell pulling in multiverse and connecting current Sony/Marvel Spider-Man with the full on Sony Venom is super hype.

yeah, that was awesome. Hopefully we see something in the next spiderman movie and just not a post credits scene.

I know we have a Marvel thread (so sorry comic book movie haters, but this is relevant-ish), but Sony announced that there will be three more Spider-man movies with Tom Holland, and they will be in the MCU.

There were a lot of click-baity headlines when What if? came out - "Tom Holland REPLACED as Spidey!" and other things like that, as they had new voice actors hired for the animated TV series. Either they couldn't afford the film actors or those actors weren't available. But I hadn't heard anything about the film actors being replaced yet.

When I think of the Ricardos, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem do not exactly spring to mind. But it's also Aaron Sorkin, so......

Idk, I kinda lost interest in Sorkin movies when he started directing his own scripts. Same feeling applies to Charlie Kaufman too, actually.

Sounds like west side story is great, this wasn't really on my radar as a must see, but the more I'm thinking about it, the more I could really use some new Spielberg in the theater.

Die Hard has to take place at Christmas for all the narrative threads to converge. It's A Wonderful Life does not.

Spielberg has always said he wanted to do a musical. I think the closest he's gotten heretofore is the dance marathon in 1941 and the "Anything Goes" opening to IJATTOD.

I've been watching The Movies doc on HBO Max. It's fantastic, by the way. One of my favorite things is seeing what credit they give Spielberg in his lower third depending on what genre/era they're discussing. Sci-fi? Close Encounters. 40s era war movies? Saving Private Ryan. Hitchcock? Jaws. Musical might be the last genre that he hasn't directed so it should be fun.

Also, watch The Movies. It's unreal how many huge names they interviewed. It's a Tom Hanks production so I guess he has some pull...

Die Hard has nothing to do with the Christmas spirit or its values. I won't get preachy, but Christ flipping over tables at the Temple is not akin to killing a bunch of baddies and blowing **** up.

The Die Hard Christmas movie bullshit makes me hate Die Hard.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Rationale: A holiday party ties multiple character and story threads together in one knot without needing a word of exposition.

Jaws is a July 4th movie. Rationale: The shark wouldn't have attacked anyone in full view of the public had there not been political pressure to keep the beaches open to service Amity's biggest tourist day of the year.



Not Christmas movies: It's A Wonderful Life, White Christmas (very misleading title!), Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns, In Bruges. There is nothing about the stories in these films that requires they take place at Christmas.
