The Lost World is an okay film but a significant drop off from the first movie. The T-Rex attack on the trailer is by far the best set piece in the film. The gymnastics **** is obviously the worst. There are a few moments of Spielbergian fun but mostly it feels like a soulless money grab. Those few moments is what keeps it from falling into JP3 territory. The Dr Malcolm/Hammond scene is almost all exposition but is a real joy to watch just because we love those characters and how they interact. That's mostly the issue. Yes, the plot suffers from the typical sequel issues, but where the movie really fails for me is the characters. These people aren't super likable, and when compared to the original cast they are downright boring. I had a hard time caring about any of them except Malcolm, and even his character has changed. He's less snarky/ironic "chaostician" and more action hero. If this was a standalone and not a sequel to one of the best movies ever made, it probably would be more accepted. It's a fine standard action movie that falls way short of Spielberg expectations. He clearly wanted to remake King Kong. He should've just done that instead.
On to JP3.

The trailer scene is way too long and JP3 sucks ass.

Whiplash is good. It's a psycho-drama parading as a music movie. As long as you don't go in like "this is how jazz drumming works" you're in for a good time.

Nobody knows how jazz music works. Not even jazz musicians.

I think I want to avoid it so that it doesn’t spoil everything for me.

I just came here to post that…it’s probably going to be an awful story though.

True to the trilogy, then?

The Matrix is a lot like the Hunger Games. The story tellers didn’t realize that the only thing people were interested in was the sub-universe. Leaving the Matrix/Games…why? That’s the hook. Your first movie never gets made if you aren’t inside the thing. STAY INSIDE THE THING. Your world building stinks outside of it.

The entire third hunger games book doesn't have a Hunger Games in it....

The last few Hunger Game movies just failed miserably, which is a shame given how good the books were.

Agreed. The first one wasn't bad at all. The second basically skipped all of the ore hunger games stuff which was the best part of that book.

Agreed. I wonder if it still holds up but the first movie was transformative. The sequels were… not that. The first Matrix movie stands alone…we don’t talk about the sequels

I remember the lobby scene in the first one being a big "showcase" for DVD back then.. and then again when it came out on blu-ray.

I thought the pacing was way too rushed in the 3rd Hunger Games book. Felt like it needed a fourth book.

If she did that, I could see her dragging it out and making it worse.I thought the pacing was way too rushed in the 3rd Hunger Games book. Felt like it needed a fourth book.

I like the 3rd book. Don't recall the movie, but I enjoyed the changeup and not just a rehash of the first.

It’s always a funny moment where her child sister gets picked and she has the improv’d, frenzied idea to volunteer in her place, as if that wouldn’t have just been the standard plan for like every single family in Westeros or whatever it was called.

Agreed. It was very rushed. She's a good author fornehay she does. I would have been happy of book 3 ended before the raid in Capital City it whatever is was called.I thought the pacing was way too rushed in the 3rd Hunger Games book. Felt like it needed a fourth book.

Since we're on the topic, I also want to point out that Jennifer Lawrence is not a great actress.
