A common assertion from anti-gun folks that more gun control will be right around the corner once all of the old white gun owners and old white politicians kick the bucket continues to not materialize in polling. To the contrary, assault-weapon bans are most popular among the old and less popular among the young.

A 9 point swing in 1 year seems like poor polling and causes me to disbelieve both polls.

Pretty small sample size and pretty large margin of error.

everyone was wrong about the 2016 election, but on 538’s wiki page it sources this article talking about how while 538 was wrong, it gave Trump more of a chance than most pollsters: https://www.thestar.com/news/world/usel ... ction.html

that said, I don’t find polling particularly useful. It’s like the dumb AWS NFL stats where they say “the receiver only had a 0.00001% probability to catch the ball!!!”. Ok…who cares? He caught it, your dumb predictions don’t mean much of anything

The polls weren't really wrong, it's just 2016 ended up being the slim chance for Trump that was forecasted. The media are the ones that really got things wrong imo.
