Murphy grew up quick ...almost 6 months old... He also got sick today and had to go to the vet to get antibiotics and a cough supressant as he got a wicked cough recently(I think from where he was at doggy day camp)

Kind of a surreal moment at the vet today.

When new dogs come in, we get them spayed/neutered (obviously). We also heartworm test them, in addition to all the other stuff. We do the test ourselves, but need a drop of blood. Couldn't hit a vein in this tiny boy, so, since he had just been neutered, the vet took a newly-severed testicle and squeezed a drop of blood from it onto the test.

Negative. Yay.

Our little guy has some pretty badly deformed front legs. Nothing that causes any huge issues right now, but likely will within the next few years. They can't really draw blood from them because they can't figure out where the veins are, so they have to do jugular draws... I'm thankful that I'm not in the room the few times they've done it because it would break my heart seeing that.

Between the 4th of July antics and these thunderstorms rolling through every few hours my dog is going to stroke out from anxiety very soon.

Lily has pretty much lost her hearing, but neither of them were ever really afraid of loud noises. (Very thankful for that, as I I don't think I'd do well with a stressed out dog.) I don't know if that's an inherited trait, but I know Carlinita came from hunting stock.

Our place has CCTV, and it was an absolute life saver while we were overseas.

Technically if you are watching it remotely, it is no longer CCTV.

anybody have any recommendations for a really tough dog toy? My sister's dog is a chewer that makes short work of most Kongs. I upgraded him to the tougher black one before summer and he's already did a number on it. I found him an elk antler last year which really seemed to work for him. Even a year later he still has it, but it's getting small and I don't want him to choke on it. I thought I found him a replacement when I was at Pittsburgh Beerfest this year. Bought it from the same guy, but this one had a bit of marrow in it so it lasted all of 48 hrs.

Have you tried the ones made from a fire hose? Those work pretty good for my mutt.

Unfortunately, she won't be getting her daily milk anymore since she was just diagnosed with diabetes. We're going to try controlling it with just diet first. Found some 0% digestible carb kibble - Young Again Zero Mature Health - and Tiki Cat 0% carb wet food, and they're on the way. Took her off the milk (46% sugar) two days ago and her drinking and peeing have already improved noticeably. Need to pick up a glucose meter kit this weekend, and start testing her. That ought to be fun.

Looks pretty healthy for 17. I've never given any of my cats milk.

I had a cat with diabetes. it really wasn't that difficult to give her insulin. we had another cat recently (RIP as of last Monday ) that had to receive subcutaneous fluids once a day. that went on for about 2 months. it was an adventure when my SO went out of town and I had to do it on my own.
