Browns at Steelers - Week 18
Tomlin had 3 seasons without HOF-Ben: when he got injured, his final season and this season. He managed to make the playoffs in two of them and one Skylar Thompson win away from 3/3. He’s proven he can do it without Ben while Belichick hasn’t proven he can do it without Brady

These last few pages have been tremendously funny.

They went 11-5 in the Matt Cassel year.

I’m emotionally not prepared for it. The last time we had a dip the franchise was a few bad decisions away from being relocated. It’s crazy how it’s either we’re perennial contenders or on the verge of folding as a franchise in the last 30 years.Although I will say, no one tanks better than the Pens. We’re due for about a 4 year slump/total rebuild and snag a couple generational talents to lead the team to a cup.

he has an overall losing record without Brady (including his Browns years). Tomlin is now 27-23-1 without Ben as well as went 9-7 in Ben’s final year which was very subpar for himThey went 11-5 in the Matt Cassel year.

all I’m saying is I think Tomlin is the best coach in the league. Flawed yes but I think he’s the most consistent.

And yet, that season was tied for only the 5th worst of the "streak"he has an overall losing record without Brady (including his Browns years). Tomlin is now 27-23-1 without Ben as well as went 9-7 in Ben’s final year which was very subpar for himThey went 11-5 in the Matt Cassel year.

Here's the thing with the streak and first round exits. Other teams have a bad year and go 6-10 or I guess 6-11 now. Tomlin's bad years have been 9-8ish and a first round exit. Of course some first round exits were upsets that they should have won too, not to sugarcoat it too much. But I'm okay with our "bad" years being what they've been

Anyway, playoff criticism of Tomlin is valid. But fire him after last year if that's fireable, what he did this year was great coaching imo and is a positive spot in his resume

Tomlin is a rah-rah guy. He’s not an X and O guy. He needs good X and O coaches around him. He’s rarely been the problem with the team during his tenure here.

I generally agree with this statement. However he hasn't really surrounded himself with good X and O guys at the coordinator position since, one could argue, LeBeau and (maybe?) Haley...Tomlin is a rah-rah guy. He’s not an X and O guy. He needs good X and O coaches around him. He’s rarely been the problem with the team during his tenure here.
Also, the drafting has been horrific. He's got to take some blame for this. The reason he's been middle of the road so far is a large chunk of his draft picks simply haven't panned out.
Lastly the in game stuff, like timeouts and challenges, if he's the rah rah guy he needs a designated person for this. Because he ain't him

Last year is one of the best drafts anyone has had in a long time

They had some stinkers though before that

I don't count last year's draft in my statement. I mean with KSP it is likely to end up being better than 1974.

Honestly, I think Tomlin goes on the hot seat after the next playoff loss if they don't win another one soon.
He did a ton with a little this year, I'll give him that, but I'm more worried about the playoffs, and he doesn't show up well there. Doing just enough to squeak in and get wrecked, or do good and get upset in the first game, is not a positive note.

This may well be what happens. Most of us (and probably Steeler brass) understand that Tomlin's record had a lot to do with Ben. If he can prove that he can rebuild and win without him, that will buy him more slack. But if continues to stall in the playoffs, that won't be enough.Honestly, I think Tomlin goes on the hot seat after the next playoff loss if they don't win another one soon.

But you have to remember people wanted Cowher out of here back in 2001 after faltering in the regular season. They also said he couldn't win the big game, which was true at the time. In the end he was something like 2-4 in AFCCG, all but one of them home games. The year they won the SB it was on the road.

I think the large difference, when you want to talk about fan expectations. Fans back then had expectations of making and winning the Super Bowl every year. This may well be what happens. Now, we're talking about fan's expectations being spoiled when just winning the regular season isn't enough.
I'd much prefer fans come to the realization that either the expectation is Super Bowls, or the expectations is "just happy to be here."
But one side needs to break lol.
