At my wife’s covid town hall today, an immunologist suggested getting your 2nd dose in the opposite arm “to increase effectiveness” or something along those lines. This was secondhand, but have you heard anything like that?

Allegheny County is the worst (and I live there).

At least according to the state's vaccine dashboard, Allegheny County has administered more vaccine doses than any other county in PA, and by a fairly large amount. I would imagine, however, that performance is due to the large presence of two major healthcare systems and not due to government.

The last tweet on the subject that was posted said only for 5 months. The vaccine should be more enduring than that, right?

This one:
CNN deserves a nut punch over that headline. A ongoing study that so far has lasted five months finds that after five months, the vast majority of study participants still have high levels of antibodies.

CNN headline: "Immunity only lasts for five months!"

No, morons, that's not what the study said. :face:

I didn't even read it, so I deserve a nut punch, too.

Yeah, all they needed to do was add “at least” to the sentence to make it acceptable. And even then, it’s still not a great headline.

I haven’t heard this. Seems bogus. Did he suggest to do jumping jacks afterwards to help get it circulated?

I can ask our infectious disease dept head tomorrow about it

Yea that doesn’t make much sense to me honestly. It’s an IM injection. We give 2 injections into each shoulder for patients post-splenectomy on the same day.

As New Jersey expands its coronavirus vaccine distribution this week, state officials announced that anyone 65 or over can now get the shots, as well as those between 16-64 with certain medical conditions.

One group covered among those medical conditions, though, has raised backlash — namely, the state’s roughly 2 million smokers, who can now get the vaccine before teachers or public transit workers.

State officials say smokers should be a priority for the nearly 732,000 doses New Jersey has received so far because, just like those suffering from other underlying medical conditions, they run the risk of experiencing more severe covid-19 symptoms.

“Smoking puts you at a significant risk for and adverse result from covid-19,” state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said at a Wednesday news conference.

But some public health experts said they struggled to make sense of that decision.

“This would not be a group that would bubble up to high priority,” Eric Topol, a cardiologist and the founder and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute, told The Washington Post. “Just smoking doesn’t cut it in my view,” arguing that only smokers also suffering from a chronic respiratory condition should get early vaccines.

I think I read early on that smokers are less likely to get the virus, but if they did the symptoms would be worse. That was a few months ago so more data could have changed this info.

Hmm. Similar contact tracing numbers being seen in other locations as well, apparently. Interesting that "Government" was actually responsible for more clusters/cases than restaurants.

Religious gatherings caused more than restaurants... shut 'em down. :slug:

Honest question: how much of this has to do with not being able to track down where someone got it from? I'm looking at Kansas on the googles right now... over a quarter million cases. This list: 33k. That's 13% of all cases are on this list. I would imagine (and please, correct me if I'm wrong here...) that places like LTCF, meat packing, private business, corrections facilities are wayyyyyyy easier to do tracing than a bar/restaurant.

One could argue that shutting down restaurants worked based on that but 🤷🏻‍♂️
