MrKennethTKangaroo wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:16 am Bigger disappointment: Pitt football 2019 or Pitt hoops 2019-2020?

At this point I say the hoops team, which is saying a lot, because the football season was a real bummer, man.
I'll still say football was the bigger disappointment as a whole, mostly because the defense finally ascended to the level we hoped it wood and the offense (and coaching) again held back what could have been an impressive year.

The hoops team's collapse down the stretch was frustrating to watch but I can't say it was entirely unexpected. I wasn't sure they quite had the depth to find consistent success in the ACC. Some of the injuries didn't help, and the overall regressions of Johnson and McGowens made everything worse. It sounds a lot to me like Capel's message just isn't getting through to those guys, and it's echoed in quotes like Hamilton's after last night's game.

All in all, I can see what Capel is building and I'm on board with him as coach; he just doesn't have the horses he needs just yet. I think he's getting close, especially when they add Hugley next year. If Jeffress reclassifies to 2020 and Pitt can land him - and I think they have a really good shot - that would also go a long way to starting to see some differences next year.

Yeah, Capel has a year to show he can control the house.

It's one thing to have uncoachable players, it's another to have a coach who can't seem to keep the room.

That being said I believe in Capel and think that if McGowens transfers things will get better.

It amazes me that McGowens is apparently a massive uncoachable shitheal despite being the son of two successful D1 athletes.

I'm guessing that's against the second or third-team defense because I see Petrishen (#8), AJ Woods (#25) and Judson Tallandier (#26) in that clip. That said this is still pretty damn impressive because Woods is one of the faster DBs on the team and Abanikanda runs away from him.
