Beautiful, imo:

He's tiptoe'ing it around but that's okay.

SHITBALLS

I wish I had known about this, like perhaps if Laguna Seca could post a calendar of events - a schedule, if you will. That way people who live, say, 2 - 2 1/2 hours away could alerted to this event's existence ahead of time. Alas...

Leclerc to Ferrari is not a surprise, but I would say Räikkönen to Sauber is a surprise.

Supposedly Kimi is going to eventually take an ownership stake in Sauber to give him something to do when he is done in the car for good. Also, if Leclerc somehow shits the bed here (doubtful, good kid) they can be swapped back fairly easily. If Kimi was going to go anywhere this actually makes sense; and it's back where he started which is a nice storyline.

That said, my favorite Kimi was Lotus Kimi.

]https://www.fia.com/news/f1-2018-singap ... transcript

A few Kimi quotes:
Q: You say it wasn’t your decision to leave Ferrari, but it was your decision to go back to Sauber, so just talk us through why you're doing that?
KR: Why not.
Q: But, Kimi, what have you been told about the performance? Tell us why you want to go back to Sauber?
KR: Because I want to. Why do you try to make it so complicated?
Q: And you’re still passionate about racing? The fire…
KR: No, I’m not actually. Just by pure head games for you guys I happened to sign and I’m going to spend two years there just not being happy.
Well, Kimi, thanks for the insight.
KR: No worries.

IndyCar plans to use COTA's F1 configuration

It'll be I think a 59-lap race (F1 road races are a bit shorter than IndyCar), and they'll be well into the 1m40s in laptime. (They may be 2.5-3 secs off before the end of the first sector, thanks to the esses.) If that's the case, they'll only have around 15-16 minutes to accommodate any cautions within a 2-hour broadcast window. If that average lap speed is more like 1:45, that will knock closer to five minutes off that window. That's pretty tight.

That said, Tif + math = lol

The motor racing equivalent of the meme where the basketball player is taking a night off because `ow, my sore joints', while a hockey player pulls a tooth out of his face on the bench and doesn't miss a shift.

I would describe the infrastructure in the Hanoi area as 'generally not suitable'.

This is a typical power junction in Hanoi.

I actually bought a souvenir t-shirt that has a silhouette of that mess on it.

Reminds me of the Busch Grand National race in Mexico City where there were random people crossing the course and Mike Skinner hit a dog.

If you don't want to watch the whole video (who has that kind of time, right?) I recommend clicking through to 13:20 and watching what I consider the only time I've ever put a car somewhere I wasn't sure where it would end up. It doesn't *look* very dramatic in the video but I puckered pretty good in the moment.
In this car the way that kink works is you can hold the throttle flat out and slightly turn the wheel right, letting the car track from right to left as you unwind. There is a split second of a heartbeat where you lift and get the wheel turned straight before applying some medium to heavy braking. Ideally I try to end up on the left side of the track for my turn-in as I begin to unload the brakes. In the video above I talked myself into staying flat out through kink, and somewhere after getting the wheel straight I got really loose under braking and ended up 1.5-3 car lengths to the right, basically on top of the apex before even turning in. Sloppy, scary, and fun!
I think my car is right on the edge of being able to take that kink flat out, it will be fun to practice it and find out for sure. Any suggestion from other drivers is absolutely welcome as I'm not fully sure why the car began to move under braking there. My best guess is the suspension had one 'rebound' left in it before being fully planted and I got on the brakes while that weight was still shifting.
