The in memorium at The Emmys was pretty emotional. A who's who of my youth.

Probably because The Sopranos finale was a steaming pile of skyline chili.
This.

Banging my way through the latest season of Fargo, don'tcha know. It's very good. Having trouble with Keeley from Ted Lasso doing the Marge Gunderson accent, but it works. Jon Hamm as a MAGA sheriff/big bad is something else. Wild flashback to Wales in 1522, too.

I swear Jon Hamm's agent gave him a pep talk where he said "you're almost irrelevant, quick, take anything you can!"

He's also producing (and voicing?) a new animated show for Fox - Grimstone. He's all over the place.

This season has been really good, mostly because of Juno Temple.
JJL chews the scenery in every scene.

I agree that Juno Temple is crushing it. If it helps, DG, I imagine her character is putting on that accent as part of her ruse and that's why it works for me. The biggest surprise, however, is just how linear and straight forward the plot is considering how wacky the previous seasons have been. There's still time, I suppose. My hunch is they wanted a return to basics and that's why there are so many similarities and call back to the movie rather than the other seasons. Either way, I've been thoroughly entertained even if I do agree with Freddy's Sheriff Tillman critique.

Indeed.
Yeah I definitely feel the first half of the season was stronger. Fingers crossed for a good finale.

Jumping into the Reacher discussion now that I'm about halfway through S2.
Yeah, it's bad. And not like "fun dumb action" bad, but like, actively distractingly bad. The writing feels like it's AI-generated at times. This for instance:
Reacher (talking to his two attractive friends who are dressed nicely): "Stay here -- you look like cops."
*Reacher then enters the bar with his other friend, IMMEDIATELY proceeds to act like a cop*
Reacher (holding up a photo asking the bartender: "Have you seen this person?"
That's one instance of many. Perhaps the most egregious though is when he's fighting the guy at the construction site. There's a moment where he grabs the guy and very clearly starts to throw him. Then it immediately cuts and the next shot the guy is standing 100% upright attacking Reacher. It was so jarring. If your thing is "fun dumb action" you better at least nail the action part. Something that sloppy is just unforgiveable. If the people making the product clearly don't give a ****, why should the viewer?
The acting is way down my list of grievances. The other stuff is so distracting I haven't really noticed anything too out of sorts in that regard.

Haha, I just watched this episode, it seems to be getting worse as it goes along. I feel like I've watched the same episode over and over this season

The acting and casting seems fine to me.
I wonder if they pushed this through with scabs during the writers strike.

Oh yeah, then that whole thing "90% of the population is right-handed, so his mailbox will be on the right inside the post-office," and then 100% of the mailboxes are all in the same area to the right and the one he's looking for turns out to be the left-most box. It's distractingly non-sensical. You can only shut your brain off so much.
Scabs would make sense -- I know the books aren't exactly paragons of intellectuality, but this is another level entirely.
I checked, and it looks like the writers for this season also wrote for FUBAR, which is surprising, as I thought that was actually good fun-dumb-action. Same showrunner as Reacher too, so, I really don't know what's going on with S2 (aside from the scabs theory).

I would think most of this show was in the can during both strikes?
We're not the only ones who think it's slipped a good bit this season. Another critic thought it was weird to go backstory on Reacher on the second season, and get away from the one guy on a mission theme that the first season (and most of the novels) rely on.

I can't argue with any of this, but I'm still good for a Reacher S03 knowing how good it can be.

We watched Marvel's Echo straight through last night (5 episodes). Thought it was pretty good. First Marvel thing we've watched in forever, and it was fun seeing a violent (yet not super over the top violent) marvel series. Just the right length, didn't over stay it's welcome and left things open for a possible season two.

Re Reacher scabs
Se2 wrapped filming like two or three months before the WGA strike started.
