Can't believe they made an Elton John biopic.

He seems like the kind of person, when it was known they were making a Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic, to force studios to make one for him since Freddie was getting his.

Maybe, but this film has been in the works since 2013-2014. I'm not sure he has the sway to "force" studios to do anything without having potential ticket sales behind it. I think this film will do well, but certainly not as well as BR last year.

Yeah, that's not really how movies work. lol

Work on an Elton John biopic predated a Freddie/Queen movie by five or six years.

They took the back tubes and tail off to make it easier to sit and relax. On a box.

We're now at a point in history where Scott has made more awful Alien movies than perfect Alien movies. When they pooped the bed on.... P..... they should've quit while they were ahead. But instead they doubled down on the things that made..... P.... so awful. (The Ridley Scott School Of Not Running To The Side To Get Out From Under Falling Things notwithstanding)

Fact: Ridley Scott has made 25 movies and the good ones would require the counting assistance of a single hand.

Thelma and Louise
Gladiator
Blackhawk down

That’s a lot of less than good movies on your list.

Eh, I like them. I accept that it's really difficult for me to not like a movie, so I can understand your comments. I'd put gi Jane on the good list too.

Alien, Blade Runner, Blackhawk Down, Gladiator, and American Gangster.

In general, I like a lot of movies as well. There’s a bunch of movies of his I would consider “not good” that I still like, it just wouldn’t bother me if I never see them again. I think he gets credit for being a great, visionary filmmaker when in reality he’s made a couple truly great movies and a ton of meh ones.

I would put Robin Hood and Black Rain and Blade Runner (!) on the not good list. BR is an important film; its influence on production design and world building is still vibrating throughout the movie business. But aside from the twist that is revealed in more or less the final shot of the movie (and is not revealed at all, depending on which of the eleventy-five official edits you are watching), the story isn't very good imo.

Ridley Scott is one of the most topsy-turvy filmmakers of my lifetime. His best work is as a good as movies get, and his worst are among the most confounding bits of cinema you'll ever encounter. And the scale is tipped far too much towards that latter category. Contrast him with, say, Spielberg: Schmuel has only made a few truly awful movies. Like, stab myself in the face with a plate kind of bad. 1941!, Hook, the 4th Indy movie he allegedly made. That's a pretty good hit rate over a career spanning 30+ feature films, and even those bad ones are each at least watchable and can be enjoyed on some level. Pick any random collection of ten Ridley Scott movies, and four or five of them are going to be crap.

So basically Blade Runner is like Star Wars.

The Perfection is now on Netflix. Sounds like it's a real doozy. Avoid spoilers.

Watched The Perfection. Not sure how I feel about it. I almost turned it off 40 minutes in. It took a really messed up (maybe unnecessary?) path to get to the ending. There will be a lot of people who don't like it. I kinda like how it was all over the place, but I think I liked the setup drama at the beginning more than the movie as a whole. I wouldn't watch trailers for it to avoid spoilers and I had to watch something lighthearted after before sleep. It was weird, funny, creepy, disturbing and ridiculous.

Harrison Ford doesn't want Chris Pine, or Pratt, or anyone to play Indiana Jones. "When I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy."
