Mattress Warehouse has a much better reputation, IMO. Mattress Firm, on the other hand, can get ****.

Apologies. The local mattress warehouse requires appointments. Can’t just go whenever which was the plan.

So... went to the mattress store and tested a few out.

I don't like the newer mattresses on first try where they're the all foam or the "hybrid" kind of units. The purples, the icomforts, the other foam sytle stuff... Maybe it's because I'm a big guy, but it just feels off. Went with a firm traditional style mattress from serta with a pillowtop so it's firm for me, soft for my wife. Found it at sams club for the same price as the other places but with free shipping, free box spring, and delivery/removal of old matress/boxspring.

I ordered a Titan mattress online, and I'm pretty happy with it. There is a ton of support. Though I still have some hip pain, I think it's more to do with my sleeping position (side sleeper) than pressure points. Now I'm trying to find a pillow to better aline my hips/legs.

Try sleeping with a thin/medium pillow between your knees.

I've heard some folks recommend this. I'm going to give it a go this week.

Started coming down with the dreaded summer cold. Sore throat as I went to bed last night. Really sore in the morning, now my nose is dripping like a faucet. My oldest has been dealing with his for over a week now, and he's usually one to recover rather quickly.

Yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of my heart stopping.
How long can you live with heart failure?

In general, about half of all people diagnosed with congestive heart failure will survive five years. About 30% will survive for 10 years. In patients who receive a heart transplant, about 21% of patients are alive 20 years later.
Given my age I'm hoping to be surpass the 30%.

The defibrillator/pacemaker takes care of that.

Anyone use a Dreamstation CPAP machine?

I guess they were recalled for potential carcinogens.

So I've been seeing a chiropractor for several years and every time I leave I felt good for like a day or two and then back to pain. Just general pain. Nothing unbearable, but it still sucked. Fast forward to today and I decided to try out a new office. This one actually took an X ray and determined that I have a compressed L4 vertebrae, early signs of arthritis in the lower 5, a healed stress fracture in the L2, and my hips are over 1" out of alignment from side to side. So now we start the 'adjustment' process.

My prior chiropractor would run a TENS unit and vibrating massager and adjust me for about 10 minutes. This guy explained everything that's wrong with me in 25 minutes and is working towards proper adjustment.

Look into some strengthening exercises too. I have the hip misalignment problem all the time and it's due to a weak core. Mine is more a rotational alignment issue. One leg will appear longer than the other when it's out.

Yes, he told me after a few adjustments he will give me exercises to do at home. I told him to be honest that I am trying to be more active - I know I'm out of shape and trying to just do light to moderate exercise, but the pain that comes on after going for a 2-3 mile walk has made it tough. Hoping that this is a means to an end of the pain.

Aging sucks, man. I am definitely not as active as I used to be. There's always been some sort of back discomfort, but not until 5 or so years ago while playing hockey did I really aggravate my back and throw it out of alignment. Now it's something that happens all too often. It's been *knock on wood* 2 weeks since I've had any pain, but it can come back for no reason other than being on my feet for a couple hours at a time. Walking isn't bad, it's the standing still that gets me.

Sometimes I get hurt folding laundry. It's not that I never used to hurt myself when I was younger so much as back then I was better next day at the latest. Now I can throw out my back opening a door and I'm out of commission for a few days.

True story: many years ago (probably around 20 or so, so I was still in my late 20s) I hurt my back after I was startled by a rat. I basically tensed up after I saw it... Of course, I slept it off and it was fine a day later. Now if I hurt my back, I'm in pain for weeks.

It's crazy how the body ages and healing takes longer. My son had oral surgery yesterday - opened up his gums in front of his adult canine teeth so they can drop down - and he was without pain when the drugs wore off. I bite my lip and it's misery for a week.
