I hope they took the right rear changer out back and shot him in the head.

The F1 rules are turning into a farce. How the heck can you have 25-position start penalties when you only have 20 cars? And if you are going to slam constructors for unreliability, how about making the "power units" (I hate that term, BTW) less complicated than nuclear frickin' reactors?

When I saw that Button had a 25-place penalty and Alonso had a 20-place penalty, my reaction was pretty much

No no no, they're saving money with these power units.

Indy @ Fontana.
Easily the most exciting Indy oval I've ever watched, which is a pity since everyone involved hated it. 80 lead changes and only a handful of cautions (and a red flag) made for a tight day.
The thing that really pissed me off is that that driving out of the pits with your fuel rig attached, then depositing it on the racing line causing a caution, is not a penalty. Easily should have been a stop and go, but Indy reviewed it and said "nope, that's cool." Garage league.

I was at the final CART/Champ Car race there in 2002, and that race stood out for a few reasons:
1) Ashley Judd told me she like my tattoo (*swoon*);
2) There were 40-something lead changes;
3) It was, at the time, the fastest 500-miler ever (avg speed 197 mph);
4) P1 (Vasser) and P2 (Andretti) were a reversal of P1 (Andretti) and P2 (Vasser) from Long Beach at the beginning of the year, by the same 0.4s margin;
5) It was the first - and sadly last - time I saw a racing car go by under my nose at 230 mph; I can still hear and feel the sensation of the pack going by at the green. Greatest motoring spectacle I've ever personally witnessed.

Indy claims to have not known where the debris came from. The idea that THEY do not have a clue about what I as a SPECTATOR at home on my couch found to be obvious is frightening. What else do they not know about this inherently dangerous sport?

Didn't watch the race; what debris?

In the YT video I posted above, you see the fuel nozzle on Rahal's car break off and stay in the car until he gets on track. He actually couldn't get out of gear because of a safety protocol and had to shake the nozzle loose onto the race track. Part of it landed on the apron, the other part landed in the racing line on the back stretch and caused a caution. He was unpenalized and won. The telecast picked it up just fine, Paul Tracey knew what it was immediately.Didn't watch the race; what debris?

I read that they are in talks to bring Indy Car back to Road America next year. So that's good.

Holy crap, more footage of that Ferrari crash at Elkhart Lake

Looks like the car in front moved over. From his on-board, it looks like he checks his mirror just prior, too.

The more I watch that, the more angry I get and the driver of the black Ferrari.
Motorsports (non-NASCAR)
Why? You're talking yourself into it because the burden is on the red car. Especially in a no contact series. There isn't even a noticeable juke by the black car.The more I watch that, the more angry I get and the driver of the black Ferrari.

Red car maintains position track left for a good 800 feet prior to the point of contact. Driver of black car looks in side mirror and moves left when there is a clear overlap of at least a foot, with the red car carrying a lot more speed. I don't think black car driver deliberately caused contact, but I do think he was closing the door. Just magnified by being a no-contact series.

Juan Manuel Fangio’s body to be exhumed, rules Argentinian judge
The body of five-time Formula 1 World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio will be exhumed next month, following the orders of a judge in Argentina for a paternity test.
Fangio, who won the F1 world title in 1951 and then every year from 1954-57 despite a near-fatal crash at Monza in ‘52, is the subject of a lawsuit opened by a man who claims to be his son.
His body will be exhumed on August 7 to analyze his DNA.
The news comes just days before the 20th anniversary of Fangio’s death, which happened on July 17 1995 when he was aged 84.
