US military warns service members about extremist violence at 'Joker' screenings
The U.S. military has warned service members of the potential for a mass shooting at theaters showing the upcoming "Joker" film, according to notices circulated by the Army.

The notices, circulated after the Army received a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) bulletin, warn of extremists possibly replicating the deadly 2012 mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., Gawker Media’s website Gizmodo first reported.

“Posts on social media have made reference to involuntary celibate (‘incel’) extremists replicating” the shooting “at screenings of the Joker movie at nationwide theaters,” according to the notice from Army Materiel Command, which sent to service members in an email last Wednesday.

“This presents a potential risk to [Defense Department] personnel and family members, though there are no known specific credible threats to the opening of the Joker on 4 October.”

that incident came with zero ideological motives and was just a garden variety psychotic moment, right? sort of a strange inspirations for copy cats.

but it's not the worst thing that there's active monitoring of public spaces going on.

The UCSB shooter from a few years ago has been cited/referenced a few times in subsequent incel-perpetrated mass violence incidents, both in the US and Canada. So it's apparently a thing.

Acting director of national intelligence threatened to resign if he couldn’t speak freely before Congress on whistleblower complaint
The acting Director of National Intelligence threatened to resign over concerns that the White House might attempt to force him to stonewall Congress when he testifies Thursday about an explosive whistleblower complaint about the president, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The revelation reflects the extraordinary tensions between the White House and the nation’s highest-ranking intelligence official over a matter that has triggered impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

The officials said that Joseph Maguire, who was thrust into the top intelligence post last month, warned the White House that he was not willing to withhold information from Congress, where he is scheduled to testify in open and closed hearings on Thursday.

The move was in part designed to force the White House to make an explicit legal decision on whether it was going to assert executive privilege over the whistleblower complaint, which centers on a call that Trump made with the leader of Ukraine in late July.

I feel like there's much more weight behind this compared to the Mueller report.

He did it while president, it contains the component missing from the Russia investigation, Trump asking for a foreign country for dirt on a political opponent, but most importantly, there's a concrete record of wrongdoing.
