Wonder if she's getting in her own head from the slip-ups she had. People hyper-driven like that probably crack a bit easier when they think they should be dominating and they aren't?

There's also a couple quotes floating around out there from her leading up to the games where she basically says she hates the toll she puts on herself mentally and physically, and how her favorite moment in her career is whenever she has downtime. Could be a mix of both.

I can't imagine the pressure she's under. The media has been hyping her as the best of all time. She's 24 and touted as a grizzled vet. She is expected to go out every night and not only win, but perform at such a level that has literally never been seen before.

Yea, no doubt it's easy to see the severity at which this could be mental. Basically the entirety of the Summer Games was once about Phelps, and now it's about Biles. I couldn't imagine the pressure not only the outside is putting on you, but your own mental game.

Idk why everyone's making excuses for her. She's there, just complete the task you signed up for then retire if you hate it so much.
If she's injured that's one thing.

"Making excuses for her..."

And this is why there's still a stigma with mental illness. Who knows what the real reason is that she decided to pull out, but if it is mental, it's the same as an "injury."King Colby wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 8:53 am Idk why everyone's making excuses for her. I don't think acknowledging the pressure she's under is making excuses for her. I'm saying that I understand her having "mental issues" given everything she's carrying.

You have zero... literally ZERO information on what's going on with her and your reaction is "Get your ass in there and do a flip!" It's just ridiculous.

Is it a stigma with mental illness, or is it honoring a commitment to your teammates?

It's a comment made with caveats man. If she's too physically injured to compete at her top performance ability then it is what it is. If she's pissed because she didn't like her vault performance and she's caving under pressure, then I don't like the "quit" answer.

TIL having empathy for someone is making excuses

What if she has an ongoing nagging injury that's not bad enough to take her out completely, but enough that coupled with her mental stuff is holding her back?King Colby wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:04 am It's a comment made with caveats man. Easy answer? It is what it is.

Osaka got the same criticism for dropping out of a few majors due to mental issues.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that she just got pissed or caved under pressure after her vault today and said "I'm done." She's been competing at the highest level for how many years now? This isn't the first time she's had a poor vault, I'm sure. So whether it's mental or physical that she can't compete to the highest of her abilities, she's earned the benefit of the doubt I'd think.

Nah, get out there and carry your teammates.
