There is definitely a phenomena of limousine liberals being willing to speak out against the racial disparities that their decisions and their actions proliferate, but then just doing the everyday things that maintain their position on the food chain. I don't know how exactly this ties in, but I just spent the weekend with my limousine liberal in-laws, and at one point, with absolute conviction, my mother in law told me that Boston was a diverse city.
I think that's the opposite phenomenon, where they're sticking fingers in their ear and going "lalala". Mine is a much tougher pill, where well intentioned people are showing compassion despite their face. It's an impossible thing to bring up without sounding monstrous to most people. "We need to keep you out to keep the cool kids table the cool kids table" sounds cruel, and I'm not even sure how to broker that sentiment, even among friends.

A bunch of rich white people move to an area with a bunch of rich white people and complain there are only rich white people. Sounds about right

What, some of them know how to pronounce the "ar" sound and the others don't?

These last few posts show why gentrification is, for me at least, the most confusing social problem.

Devin Nunes suing twitter account run by one his cows and twitter:
There’s a cow on Twitter. But it isn’t just any cow — it claims to belong to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

“Hanging out on the dairy in Iowa looking for the lil’ treasonous cowpoke,” reads the bio of the account “Devin Nunes’ cow,” which, as of early Tuesday, had nearly 45,000 followers.

The opinionated bovine appears to not be the biggest fan of its owner. “Devin’s boots are full of manure,” it once tweeted. “He’s udder-ly worthless and it’s pasture time to mooove him to prison.”

On Monday, Nunes said he is suing the cow account, other individual users and Twitter for defamation and negligence, alleging that the social media platform “knowingly acted as a vessel for opposition research” and censors conservative voices. The lawsuit — the latest one accusing a social media site of anti-conservative bias — drew criticism Monday as many, including legal experts, questioned its motivations and wondered if it could be a “publicity stunt.”

The blue checks marks on twitter were really excited about that filing last night.

That said, Devin Nunes' mom had some funny posts.

I lived in Boston for a bit in 2003. Seemed to be a ton of Asian students and young professionals, with a number of black and Hispanic communities on the poorer outskirts. Not that this is “good” diversity, but it certainly wasn’t the whitest place I’ve ever been.

The whitest place I've ever lived was my hometown, something like 98% whitey white. (Which is a big part of why I wanted out since before I finished grade school.)

It’s a major city, but it’s always felt to me more like a giant Pittsburgh than other major metro areas like New York, Chicago or philly

That part of the world is far more racist today than anywhere down here, regardless of what flag someone might have in their yard.

Though I've only lived north of the Mason-Dixon for 7 of my 38 years and Pittsburgh was far more open about its racism than WV, VA, MS, or SC.

The Giant Eagle Warehouse I worked in on the west side of the 'Burgh was like a Klan rally.

I agree that Pittsburgh seems to be the most racist city I've lived. Boston a bit behind that. Racism down here is a bit different. I know many people who will quite openly speak about other groups of people in a negative way, and boxing them by stereotypes. However, those same people will have good friends from a different race. So it's like if they know the person, they're ok with them; if not, they think they must fit a negative stereotype.

I listened to some podcast that had some sociologists that had just written a book. The crux of it was, that the areas in the south that had the highest concentration of slaves maintain the highest racism/hostility to black people, compared to other parts of the country to this day. And basically, the parts of the south that had other things going besides slavery, had the most evolved attitudes toward race.

That wasn't my experience in Mississippi, and has not been so far in South Carolina. YMMV.

I lived in the "black belt" in MS.

here's a wildly unpopular take that will be impossible to bring up in any public setting whatsoever.
I alluded to this a few weeks back when I mentioned that a developer was trying to plop down about 150 low-income housing apartments just behind our development. We specifically moved out here to get away from the shady area we lived in before. Right now, the only police presence we have is the state (and really, that's all we need). We have a volunteer fire. I don't want to invite all of the...problems....that it would bring. It's tremendously selfish, and I readily admit that.

It is amazing the lengths state legislatures will go to in order to unwind the vote of the public.

While I agree with the aim of Amendment 4, I do not support putting fundamental rights up to a popular vote, especially when a simple majority is enough to carry the day.

So you don’t want these people to fully repay their debt back to society before they can elect people that have a say over your own life?
