That 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 7 with 2 mins and change to go where Duck audibled and converted never would have come close to happening with Rudolph in there. Yeah the drive still ended in a field goal but the Steelers were able to take another minute off the clock after that. Duck isn’t great but he has some balls and has confidence.

I think Duck has done enough to earn a back up job somewhere for at least the next 3-5 years and then he’ll get to collect an NFL pension while moving on and continuing to hone his Duck calling skills.

My favorite it "The Steelers are the worst at trades ever. If the AB trade didn't solidify it..."

How's that AB trade looking?

Also have to give Colbert and Tomlin credit for sticking with Dupree. I don't think anyone believed that gambit was going to pay off.

This x10. I wanted him cut years ago, and I’m happy to eat my words now. He has been lights out.

Yes, it has been really encouraging to see these young-ish defenders starting to break out. TJ Watt has become one of the best OLBs in the league.

I feel like you could tell Watt was going to be a stud right away. Dupree looked like a failure and that they weren't willing to accept that fact.

I still don’t think I pay him after this season.

Even if the ask is reasonable? He's certainly making it harder for me to accept him parting ways.

He is going to want way more than he is worth. He basically played himself into a big contract, but the chances of him keeping up the level of play he has this year I would say is pretty slim.

There’s zero chance that his ask is “reasonable.” He plays the premium position after QB. He’s gonna wind up around 11-12 sacks and he’s gonna get paid. I would also bet this is his career high pointz

Seems like it would be really tight but they may just be able to do it.

https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/pittsburgh-steelers/

This says they have 5.5mm in cap space next year. If you cut Mark barron, McDonald, Chickillo, that gets you abut 15-17mm in cap space. Lets assume it costs you 1/3 of that number to replace them, so call it 5 which is probably low. Add in your prior 5.5 in space, and you are right against the cap if you franchise him and pay him 15mm and change that he would get as a LB franchisee. They would still need to sign their draft picks and other FAs to fill what they lose, but they can always renegotiate things here and and maybe get there. Would be really tight it seems.

The upside with that idea to me LITT is that the guy finally put it together once his money was on the line. The tag kind of does the same thing in that he's still being forced to play for a long term contract. And, I am only locked in for one year when my concern with him is that he reverts back to the inconsistent player he was the first four years of his career once he gets a big deal.

Tagging an OLB would cost $16.3MM in 2020.

Shaq Thompson just signed a 4 year 52 (57 with incentives) million deal. Where does Dupree fall on that line: above or below?

He's a 4-3 OLB so I dont think the comparison is apt. Dupree is looking for pass-rushing DE money because that's more akin to his role as a 3-4 OLB. Thompson isn't asked to produce pressure in nearly the same way Dupree is, which is what drives their value. I'd say that deal is his floor though I dont know whats guaranteed for Thompson.

Kinda spoils the mood knowing that Dupree’s final season, where he shreds everyone, will be without a healthy lineup.

T Po's legacy will be hampered in the short term by his relatively poor play (by his standard) his final 20-25 games imo. Might also impact early HOF voting.
