My coworker sent me the video of that woman getting shot and I wish i didn't watch it. It was incredibly sad. She shouldn't have been there and likely wouldn't have if she wasn't fed a steady diet of lies and anger on a regular basis.

There were reports on the day that people were using the underground tunnel network to try and get to the House and Senate office buildings. The basement sub-levels of the Capitol are absolutely Byzantine, and there isn't a high likelihood they could accidentally find their way to this location. (I've been in the bowels of the Capitol before precisely once as part of a Close Up tour, got separated from our group and got lost and ultimately ended up in the cafeteria where they have the bean soup. That was neat, because my friend and I were high school seniors and were very much in an off-limits area.)

Preemptive pardons are pretty rare, the most famous one was when Ford pardoned Nixon. The validity of that action has never been tested in court, but the fact is Ford issued the pardon before any criminal charges were ever filed against Nixon. Once the act has been committed, the President can grant clemency, but usually there's an interest in waiting until some sort of criminal process has begun. (There are arguments about whether there's a "specificity requirement" for a pardon to be valid)

That's one reason why I'm not super keen on the government charging all these insurrectionists now, unless they've been deemed flight risks and the feds want to get them into the system, because it identifies individuals and sets forth their criminal conduct. Could be wrong, but I don't think "anyone who was at the Capitol 1/6/20" in the 'who' field would float, especially if paired with "any and all criminal conduct they committed on that day". Could be wrong, but that seems like an excessively broad interpretation of an already excessively broad executive power.

Didn't Ford issue a blanket pardon to draft dodgers?

It was Carter. But the difference here is the names/identities of the draft dodgers would have been known, and a specific offence outlined. The prospect of Trump pardoning anonymous insurrectionists for 'stuff' is much more vague and imo difficult to apply.

Smart move not stopping in. Aliens could literally bring the blue prints to peace and prosperity and this planet would put it in prison and find ways to use it's technology to wipe each other off the surface.
