A good thread. Worth noting that it's a bit of a different era vs 2004 though

He also looks terrified in the pocket. Something Ben had zero issue with, if we're forcing the comparison.

Mason won't be a starting QB (unless the starter is injured) at any point during his career. He's a career backup. Nothing wrong with that obviously.

I don't think Rudy looks scared at all. Confused, at times, maybe. But not scared.

Duck looked terrified, however. I could see his bug eyes from across the way.

That first game against the Ravens is even more maddening now. We should have won that damned game, effing Juju.

He’s probably damn near to Ike Taylor’s career total.

the Steelers are literally 3 plays away from being 7-1 and it's a little enraging

Moncrief drop turned into INT against Seattle. Or the one PI all season overturned against us
Conner fumble at SF
Juju against Baltimore. Or the BS roughing call on Ola.

Even almost JuJu yesterday. If he wants to be a #1 - the ball hitting him square in the hands and him deflecting it like that really can't happen.

Ike had 14 career INT's. His career high (3) was in 2007.

It's a shame they traded away their chance to win the Steven Montez lottery.

Sports does weird **** to otherwise reasonable people.

Then again, this thread is cross-populated with Pirates fans so 'grasping' is part of the culture.

I don't think you're following what I'm saying. That's probably my fault.

I'm not denigrating the player, or the trade.

The posturing based on small sample size and an unknowable result is what I'm looking down on. It seems desperate and something a well reasoned individual wouldn't engage in. But, again, that's sports, so have at it.

fair enough then. Presuming the unknowable result is what pick the Steelers would have had in the 2020 draft?

Numerically? Yeah, the impact of the trade has been at least +1 win so that skews things as well.

Substantially? The realized talent/success of all players drafted below that pick and those players undrafted. Or to narrow the scope down; the talent/success of all players in a position of need for the Steelers available at the time of their would-be first round pick.

What people like NTP66 are saying is that they know Fitzpatrick is better than all of those possible players. Which, given their intelligence, has to be chalked up to fandom and grasping, it's a silly take.

I'm really impressed the Steelers finally went out on a limb and participated in free agency. They just picked a really weird spot to do it in.

The Steelers look to most likely be picking from the 10-20 range at this point with 3 left against Cinci and Cleveland.. Nothing is a certainty but the odds of them finding a better player at that spot are very low imo. On that note, the Steelers aren't really a team that drafts on need in the 1st round. This also isn't considering that he's contributing to the team this year.. I know you think it's a lost year but they just beat the team they are chasing and are a game out of the playoffs and now hold the tiebreaker. It's not etched in stone but I'm comfortable calling the trade a win.

You're both overthinking this and giving the Steelers far too much credit. We traded for a known commodity, who himself was a first round draft pick. Why on Earth would anyone believe that the Steelers would be able to do better on the draft board in that area? Polamalu was their last great pick in the secondary, and that was over a decade ago.

The bolded is our point of disagreement. The team has no future QB, lost their key WR and RB, and their response was to trade away future consideration for a safety? It's a decision worth scrutiny. To declare the question answered is just wrong, imo.
