I like the cut of this guy's jib.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/14/marc-be ... rview.html
While portions of it read like a typical business book, with insidery anecdotes, like the story of why he decided not to buy Twitter, and hard-won bits of wisdom, other parts read like an Elizabeth Warren speech: Modern capitalism is dead, companies are too focused on shareholder returns and sometimes higher taxes are necessary. It’s quite a shift for a former Republican turned independent.

New models
But Benioff insists that he hasn’t really changed. Rather, he’s simply trying to spread the same values that he instilled in Salesforce two decades ago — and the ones that have worked both for the company and communities where it operates.

“Over 20 years ago, when we started Salesforce, this was our idea,” Benioff said. “We’d start a company with a new technology model, a new business model, and a new capitalism model.” He was referring to Salesforce’s practice of donating 1% of its profits, product value and employees’ time to nonprofits.

When you look beyond shareholders, “Your customer’s not a product, they’re a stakeholder,” Benioff said. “Your employee’s not a cog in your wheel, they’re a stakeholder. And kids aren’t people you’re driving by on your way to work, they’re a stakeholder. And homeless aren’t people you’re walking by, they’re your stakeholders.”

I think the more people get exposed to Warren, the more people will dislike her. She looks and sounds like a really mean, Nurse Ratched-looking fraulein. Today's version of Hillary is a flower compared to her IMO.

So you're saying people should vote for the best looking person that has the most pleasant voice? How did trump win again?

Wealth tax and regulating Facebook is what kept Hillary from winning in 2016. Warren’s got the winning message in the rust belt, for sure!

Point taken, but I think Trump had a lot of charisma (for better or worse) that captured lightning in a bottle in 2016.

That said, it's Warren's nomination to lose at this point. It will be very interesting to see how she appeals to the rust belt, because I think she is going to have the same hurdles (unlikable, elitist female candidate) that Hillary had. Biden would be much better suited to winning back Ohio, Michigan, etc.

I'd think about voting for the "two-income trap" Warren. Her need to out Bernie Bernie, has corrupted her.

Sarcasm. The focus of Warren’s platform is meaningless to the people Hillary didn’t win in 2016. She is offering nothing to sway those people. The “life’s not fair, gimme free stuff” crowd is already on the D ledger.

Hillary didn't lose those voters because of her policies. She lost them because she was Hillary and "Benghazi!" and "but her emails!" and because Trump was able to whip up an extraordinary amount of fear and hate.

But I agree that Warren probably can't/won't win those votes either,.

Trump's disapproval rating is up to 54%. I'm not sure it can go much lower, but if there's an economic downturn between now and November 2020, hard to see it going down.

It's hard to see what the democratic coalition would be with any of the current candidates, but the election will be a referendum on Trump and he's the worst.

I really don't think it's hard to make the case that Trump has outsourced government to the "swamp". Obviously none of this matters to the die-hards, but I think you cut into his rural margins with the message of Trump being a corporate/industry president. The democrat has to figure out how to ignore the culture war stuff and just talk political-economy.

Small sample size, Hallmark in KC closing a division and my old manufacturer moving to Mexico both announced in KC this week. Harley closed their plant last year. I know unemployment is down, but these people still have to go find new jobs that will be objectively worse than their last.
