In a perfect world, the nba would just cut off ties with China. It kind of screws over the people of China who enjoy the product, but probably the right move. However, billions of dollars are involved. A lot more people watch the nba in China than in the US. It’s easy to give up that money when it’s not yours.
And it's like we all forget that stunt Pence pulled at the Colts game and how the NFL responded to players speaking out against police brutality.

This has nothing to do with anything except people needing to jerk off to the idea that the people they disagree with are hypocrites.

RIP Irony
Ivanka Trump: "Hunter Biden - the son of - accepted a job for which he had absolutely no qualifications. It was an outrageous abuse of power of his father, and should be treated as such."

Have we finally gotten to a point where we can all agree and safely close the political thread for good...? This seems like a good place.

Epic Games stated they would not punish anyone for speaking out against Hong Kong or the Chinese government.

They have enough money to say **** you to the Chinese. Good on them.
Bold move by them since the Chinese conglomerate that owns 5% of Blizzard owns 40% of Epic.

Indeed, 90% of the conversation is arguing with what people assume the other position is.

Right. And it's just because "their" people said it...

It's the equivalent to being a Penguins homer and railing against Alex Galchenyuk and Brandon Tanev for years and then when the Pens acquire them in foolish deals, you turn and go, "what a great move...infinite praise be to GMJR..."

It's like, listen, eventually you're gonna **** up or one of the opposition players is gonna end up playing for you...open your mind up a little bit...

Now both sides have stepped into a big pile of it on a big stage...insert that spiderman meme where he's pointing at himself and let's get the hell out of here...

I always come back to the idea that we are all fully capable of seeing the nuance in our own sets of beliefs, but lack that capacity to see the nuance in the opposing viewpoint. To me, that explains the path most arguments take.

Here is where this gets even worse. ESPN is showing straight up Chinese propaganda.

That is just bizarre. It is such a uniquely specific thing to include, that you have to wonder if the Chinese government provided the graphic for them to use in their hits/marketing/etc as part of the broadcast agreement.

Along those lines, no pun intended, I wonder if any of the editors that assemble the gfx package have any awareness as to what they're doing by showing this. They're given x-y-z assets, they drop them into the cut, and away they go.

Then don't have beliefs. Have a method for determining what reality is.

“Now the Kurds are fighting for their land,” Trump told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday night. “They didn’t help us in the Second World War, they didn’t help us with Normandy, for example.”

Trump attributed the points to an article he said he had read, which wasn’t identified, that dismissed the importance of the Kurdish alliance. He suggested that Kurds had battled alongside U.S. forces for “their land.” “They’re there to help us with their land, and that’s a different thing.”
The video of this is tremendous. I think it's Senator Burr standing behind him and you can see the seven stages of "WTF" flash through his mind in real time.

I read that if the NBA and China broke ties, the salary cap would decrease by 15% next year. That's how much of an impact China has.
It's not just the Association, but the shoe companies, too. So you'd be talking a massive hit to that revenue stream (for teams and individual players alike) as well.

Apparently the wife of a US official crashed her car into and killed a British teen. She told officials she wouldn't leave the country, then did. Trump and company are saying she won't go back to face charges citing diplomatic immunity, with Trump basically saying "It's hard driving on the opposite side of the road so, whoopsie."

All of our government operates under a different set of rules. Doesn’t matter who is sitting in the chair. The institution is the problem.

Normally, diplomatic immunity only applies to staff and dependents based in London (so consular officials and their family aren't usually covered). But there apparently has been a special agreement in place for 25+ years specific to the RAF base where this happened that extends the privilege.

In the UK, the biggest perk appears to be that embassy staff get to simply ignore congestion charges when driving in London. The staff of the US embassy racks up 90,000 unpaid fines, totaling £10 million, annually.
