Watching a tree company take down a diseased oak tree in front of my office. It's fascinating.

Avon is a town in the OBX...

Yeah, I was gonna say...that isn't exactly an odd license plate.

Don't all of the residents in the OBX towns have "OBX" at the start of their license plate anyway? I see a ton of them when we are down there on the NC plates.
It's still dumb for a PA plate...

When Tiffani O’Brien opened her eyes, she was still in the same place she fell asleep — strapped into her seat aboard an Air Canada flight bound for Toronto.

Only, something wasn’t right. The entire plane was empty, O’Brien wrote in a Facebook post shared last week by her friend on her behalf. She was “freezing cold” and sitting in “complete darkness.” It was around midnight and her flight, which left Quebec City that evening, had landed hours earlier.

“I thought, ‘This is a nightmare,’” O’Brien, who is from St. Thomas, Ontario, told CTV News in an interview that aired over the weekend. “'This is not happening. I’m having a bad dream. Wake up, Tiffani.'”
Since going through the ordeal earlier this month, O’Brien said she’s suffered from insomnia and “reoccurring night terrors,” according to the Facebook post, which her friend, Deanna Noel-Dale, shared to Air Canada’s official page on Wednesday.
O’Brien tried to FaceTime Noel-Dale, but her phone died mid-call. Unable to find any working outlets because the plane’s power had been shut off, O’Brien said she started to freak out.

“Since I can’t charge my phone to call for help I’m full on panicking [because] I want off this nightmare asap,” she wrote.
So many things annoy me about this story. Yes, that sucks. But are we really this conditioned now to absolutely panic and call everything a "nightmare"? Maybe instead of FaceTiming your fcking boyfriend you should have called 911, dipsht. I can only imagine how long this dummy was talking on FaceTime instead of conserving her battery.

Also it was June 9...I know it's Canada, but "freezing cold"? Toughen up you candy-ass.

Also, I am having trouble envisioning a scenario where you would be able to sleep through landing, disembarking, etc. I wonder if she was drinking and/or on downers.

Wrongly timed Ambien, and there might not be anything wrong with that. I know plenty of people with anxiety over flying that might take something prior to take off.

In fact, there have been several instances of sleeping passengers getting left behind on planes in past years. In 2010, a British law professor flying on Air Canada’s regional discount carrier, Air Canada Jazz, was awakened by a mechanic after the plane was taken to a hangar at Vancouver International Airport, ABC News reported. That same year, a Michigan woman who fell asleep during a flight from Dulles International Airport to Philadelphia was trapped for more than three hours after landing, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 2013, a Louisiana man also found himself stuck in a dark, locked plane at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport after he slept through landing, ABC News reported.

Yup...I have several in-laws that pop a Xanax beforehand

The bigger WTF is no doubt the flight crew.

Not gonna lie, if that was me, I would totally be sitting in the captain's seat and playing pretend commercial pilot for a while

I think the flight deck doors are locked when the aircraft is parked. Even the authorized cleaning crews are subject to background checks.

But yeah, I'd totally do the same if I could.

I'm not sure whether the flight-deck doors are locked or not. The aircraft itself is not locked; commercial aircraft do not have door locks.

"Power button" is pretty easy. Based on the fact that she said she was sitting in row 32 and was flying from Quebec City to Toronto, this was either an Airbus A320 or A321. Look on the overhead panel for buttons that say "Battery." Press them to connect the internal batteries. At that point you should have radios, but you could also look for the buttons on the overhead panel that say "APU." Press the APU master switch and then the "Start" switch in order, and the APU should fire up. I think for an A320 the aircraft computer will have the APU take over for the batteries automatically. At that point you have full electrics, so just start flipping on every switch that says "lights" and I guarantee that you'll get someone's attention.

And for those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting dodint in person, he's much less of a dodint in real life :)
He, Mrs. dodint, and his buddies were fun to chill with all weekend, and I'd do it again next weekend if I could (minus the apocalyptic weather).

Do you have the A/C on tonight? I just lowered mine to 72F which seems to be the sweet spot these days.

My room, 3rd floor no AC, is currently 82 with my AC unit running for the past half hour.

I have the unit set at 70.

It's probably the brick house holding the heat, but I've found the sweet spot to be 69...

That sounds good but too expensive. This house is 102 years-old.

Floor unit but same concept.

It's good white noise. I've always had a fan running in the summers back when I lived at home so it doesn't bug me.

And WK, it's an 8k BTU I think. Got me down to 72 last night but nothing lower. Also probably didn't help that I was out from 730ish in the morning to 1015 pm last night. Too much stagnant air.

We have a 3,200 square foot home including a finished basement. Our Central Air unit does a nice job on the ground floor, but we have window units in most of the upstairs bedrooms as it struggles to cool that floor to the same extent. The only real solution would be to buy a second central air unit and dual-zone the house.

That said, the warmest floor of our home during the winter is the finished portion of the basement, because we have four heating registers down there. As a general PSA for those of you with issues heating/cooling parts of the house, DO NOT close registers thinking that you can divert more air to oft-used areas of the home. That does not work and will negatively impact your equipment/efficiency.

Our house is dual-zoned with a single AC unit and so far has done an excellent job keeping both levels at cool temperatures. During the summer in our old townhouse the thermostat on the main floor would be set at 68 degrees so the upstairs bedrooms could hopefully stay below 80. It was miserable.
