If you give more-detailed description, such as size, color pattern (any spots or stripes?), overall coloration (same color all over? different belly? different wings?) tail (long tail? short tail? tail straight out? tail held up?), I could run it past my mother, who is a lifetime birdwatcher and great at bird identification. Also, where are you located?

I think that’s it, but these guys have white bars on their wings, not so much a white patch. I thought their tails were forked and they might be flycatchers, but I’m not sure.

Hmmm. Most flycatchers don't tend to spend much time on the ground. The Eastern Phoebe is a gray bird with a fairly long tail with notable lobes at the end, but it catches bugs in midair.
