Damn, I didn't realize Val Kilmer had throat cancer, and how badly it had left him:

Oh man, that's heartbreaking. Not to be mean, but he kinda sounds like the Godfather. I had no idea he married Sorsha from Willow. That's a good looking couple right there. Glad to see him happy with family.

Watched Gremlins with the family last night. My 6 year old was terrified just from pictures of the Gremlins, but ended up loving it. For whatever reason, when my daughter was a wee tike, this was her favorite movie and she wanted to watch nothing but this and Lady and the Tramp. Back to Gremlins, man that movie is an American masterpiece. It's so damn good. I had no idea that's the same lot/town from back to the future. They do have one kinda weird Santa Clause isn't real serious speech that I forgot about and it's pretty jarring watching it with the little ones. Why is that in this kind of movie?

I like Road House but why the eff does Wesley think destroying the businesses he collects money from is a good course of action? JC Penny is about to come to town for God's sake. Why are you effectively crushing the economy that made you rich?
I don't pretend to understand the economics in Jasper, Missoura, but it's 1989 and your south of the mason-dixon line. There is obviously something going on with the law of physics simply by how Dalton is able to make sweet sweet love to Doc Clay in such dramatic fashion. I do understand your puzzlement, I mean Wesley grew up on the mean streets of Chicago, it appears he didn't come from money. Korea must have done a number on him and let's not forget his father was an dadhole. I think he knew right from the start that Dalton would be the end of him, hell his cousin from Memphis gave him the skinny on him, so he definitely knew what he was capable of. There is no denying Wesley had a good run, but his time was up.

I love Gremlins. Such a bizarre movie that can't decide if it's geared toward kids or is a damn horror movie. A couple years ago I actually read the original screenplay for Gremlins and THAT definitely was a horror movie. I actually watched Gremlins 2 the other day and that movie is equally fantastic. I love that the sequel went with a completely different tone, opting for satire over black comedy.

Phoebe Cates is always worth a watch as well.

Fun fact; Gremlin's and Temple of Doom are the reason that the PG-13 rating exists.

european vacation has sooooo many bewbs in it. and it was given a PG13 rating just a year or so into its existence. which makes me think that they really had no idea what they were doing in the rating's early days

Finally caught "Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri." Solid. Great acting and dialogue (obviously). Some good laughs to be had throughout. There were a lot of quick tonal shifts that I for one was a fan of (though some reviews felt the opposite). There were a couple moments that felt a bit contrived to me in terms of character interaction, but in reflection, some of them can be forgiven a bit due to the small-town setting. Not a great film, I don't think, but still a very good one.

Gremlins is a Christmas movie.
The best partner of the movie was the whole bar scene when Phoebe Cates was able to stay alive by serving the gremlins beer and liquor.

I belly laugh my way through that entire scene every time. It's so good.

The good ol, "if I'm going down I'm taking you with me!" That makes more sense.

Still love Road House. "I used to f*ck guys like you in prison!"

I think it’s fantastic, but it really gets down to one’s aesthetic interest in film making; sign up for a trial and see if it suits your fancy.

I'm not opposed to artsy films, but am looking for old classics. I scrolled through the offerings and it appears to have a big focus on art.

TCM has an OTT service (I think). A lot of the MGM library is probably tied up in Warner's service too.

I think Gremlins is more of a Christmas movie than Die Hard (not that I'm arguing Die Hard's Christmas credentials).

Too bad Iron Man 3 didn't squeeze a tiny bit more Christmas into it.

It seems people passing off Frozen as a Christmas movie is a real thing.
