PSU starts the year at #6. I'm cautiously optimistic about this season.

Yawn. Now that there's a committee that picks the 4 at the end of the season, rankings are pretty much useless.

It should be a fun season. Iowa and Northwestern on the road scare the hell out of me, OSU in the Horseshoe the week after Michigan is obviously daunting, but the home schedule is manageable. We catch young Pitt and Michigan teams relatively early and everybody else looks mediocre at best. Ill be happy with 10-2 and wins over Pitt and Michigan so that's my prediction.http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/fo ... ches-poll/

It's much less stressful when expectations are lowerhttp://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/fo ... ches-poll/

That's a great get, all of the top teams have elite 1-techniques and that's something we've struck out on recently. Penn State now has 14 4+ star commits (with more to come), 5 top 100 players, and the class is almost full in early August.

Entered into the company drawing for tickets this season... my first choice was Pitt, second was Michigan.

Is Lamont Wade of Clairton HS expected to play or redshirt based on ups camp so far?

He'll start as the nickelback in all likelihood. Reid going down in the spring made it pretty much guaranteed he wouldn't be redshirted.

Yikes, that's a lot of money. I guess it's worth it considering his recruiting and this past year's success, but wow. Too much imo.

Wow. That has to make him top ten or so annually for college coaches, no?

His average salary will be the 4th highest after Saban, Harbaugh, and Meyer. If he builds on last year's success and keeps the program in the national title picture, it will be worth every penny. Considering he's only had one great year, it definitely feels like too much. He was signed through 2019, so I would have waited to see how this season worked out first.

Yeesh...this has to be on the graces of his recruiting acumen, and not his gameday management. He's a good coach, I guess, but not a top 5/top 10 coach. He's shown that he can be a top 5 recruiter, however...and recruiting is the life-blood of any college program. His players do seem to relate to him pretty well, and this should keep him there for the long haul instead of looking for the next best opportunity to jump ship. His average salary will be the 4th highest after Saban, Harbaugh, and Meyer. Too much IMO, but you have to wonder if they were worried that another successful year (top 10ish finish) would've brought out the sharks to try to steal him away.

Seems like a solid deal, it locks him up long term and the buyout is only $2 million if he flames out. It's a ton of money but I also don't really care how much the big donors want to spend on a football coach.

Yup, definitely all about the recruiting. Hard to really care about the money, it's not like it's going to affect the team in any way (unlike a player in a salary cap league). They are thinking long-term recruitment.

One thing to keep in mind is that he was the 11th highest paid coach before the extension, so he was already being paid very well.
