Honestly I care less about how the album sounds and more about the fact that a new album means a US tour. They are not loved here in the US like they are elsewhere so I get why they never play here. But guys...I miss you...

Having never been much of a Beatles fan (lack of exposure at the right time in my life), I had always sort of written off Paul McCartney and never gave his stuff much of a look.

I recently heard Monkberry Moon Delight and was blown away. For 1971? What a song.

Then yesterday Car Seat Headrest tweeted, "is this where death grips came from?" with this song:

I really feel like I need to listen to Paul McCartney.

I think "Ram" and "Chaos and Creation" are both great albums.

I'd add his solo debut McCartney.

Frank Ocean's new album will finally be released this friday. My expectations are low.

Paul McCartney and John Williams are my two biggest musical heroes.

Having established the details of the Pretenders deal with Rush, I noticed that there are other talk shows that either slightly slow down or speed up bumper music of popular songs. Tech Guy Leo Laporte seems to do this to most songs they play.

By shifting speed and or pitch a slight degree, would the original music still be considered 'original' for legal purposes?

The only consideration is time, the amount of the song used for the theme or bumper. Generally, up to around 30 seconds of contiguous use is permitted. After that, a short section (2-3 seconds) can be looped and played practically indefinitely. But if you're using a song as your theme, it's always a good idea to get the artist's consent to do so. The last thing you'd want to do is invest time and brand identity using a song for your show for three or four years, only to have the artist bring Thor's hammer down on your tenders.

This is presuming a radio station that pays royalties for music and had broadcast licenses in place with the performance rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI). If you're running a podcast, you still might have to get your own license. A lot of people throw terms like 'fair use' around, but that's actually a not super common exception to copyright.

Also, I never had any direct experience dealing with the licensing that was done for radio broadcast. I was film-TV-interactive, so my knowledge is anecdotal.

I've listened to some of it, it's right there with recent Bad Religion albums. Good, but unnecessary, probably only appeal to the die hards.

While I still rank Sgt Pepper as the best rock album of all time, I wouldn't argue that these represent probably the most important records of the rock era.

Squirrel Nut Zippers are still touring? Very surprised at that one.

Supposed to be travelling the weekend that Pennywise is playing, but it's still early and those plans could (and hopefully) change.

Wouldn't mind seeing D.R.I., but I haven't listened to any of their stuff post-Thrash Zone.
