I can see why they do it. Many would believe there is at least a tacit approval by the artist. I suppose if someone on the left used a right-wingers song, etc in their campaign you might understand it Freddie.

Sorry this is just an actor that is butt-hurt.
I wouldn't describe not wanting to be associated with Ted Cruz to "butt-hurt". That can hurt a career.

Being upset because someone(that you dont like) Using lines from a comedy film, a comedy film that basically everyone quotes, is the definition of butt-hurt.

Maybe he thinks being associated with Ted Cruz is bad for his career?

That can't be the case because nobody doesn't think that's possible.

is there a line between "butthurt" and just being upset in a garden variety kind of way?

I try.

For me, being butt-hurt is over-blowing something when you might have a kernel of a valid point. The context I learned it in was getting F'd in the A by the USMC, but not griping about it because everyone does so what's the point. Does it bug Mr. Mandy? Yeah, maybe. Does he have to have a tantrum about it? Nah. Suck it up, buttercup.

Exactly. So if I of all people think he's butt-hurt, he must really be butt-hurt.

i appreciate when musicians get annoyed by politicians using their songs. i feel like they have, at least in spirit, and ownership of the material. i don't give actors the same allowance.

If this means we hear less about that movie, I'm alll for Cruz continuing to do it.

I highly doubt anyone would associate Mandy Patinkin as a supporter of Ted Cruz because he repeated lines from a movie...

I agree with that. The annoyance is doubled when you consider it's a Princess Bride actor, a film that certainly doesn't rate more exposure than it has already gotten. Thank your lucky stars and keep your trap shut.

It's butthurt, sure. But I wouldn't want my name, likeness, dialog, whatever used in a political context at all, even by someone I supported.

Two factors make me side with the actor in this case.

First is the demise of Rupert Everett, British actor who says that his career tanked after coming out as gay. Being gay didn't work with the sorts of roles that he was getting. Although I don't know if that's the primary reason his career tanked, but it's not hard to see that image plays a major role in the entertainment industry.

Second, I just heard on a podcast today about a research paper that showed partisan bias was infiltrating more nodes of life. The paper basically said we were prejedice against our counterparts. I don't want to try and explain the whole thing, but check out the latest Weeds podcast if your interested in that.

Rupert Everett.
He was really good as the Claw in the Inspector Gadget movie. Great comedic actor.

Actor comes out as gay, and has career thrown off the tracks.

Guy uses dialogue of an actor from a comedy movie from the 80s...

Good comparison, I can see the similarities...
