You sure PFF didn't give Eagles and A+ for Pickett trade instead?count2infinity wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:24 am PFF gave them an A+. Along side the eagles, saints, and colts.

Feels like for the second straight draft, their 2,3, and 4 picks would be a “good” draft. Then add a cornerstone tackle on top of that.
And pretty clear heir apparents in herbig and McCormick.
Just competent draft execution.

Obviously we won't know for a couple years, but I'd say this goes a bit beyond 'competent'. If competent is the median or average bar, Khan, Weidl, and Tomlin are Fosbury-ing all over that ish.Troy Loney wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:44 am Feels like for the second straight draft, their 2,3, and 4 picks would be a “good” draft. It's a similar philosophy as far as 'who they want', but a completely different mindset for how to acquire the 'who'. Being aggressive in FA and executing trades let Khan go into this draft with a much clearer path to successful execution. Then on draft day, the vision can remain clear, but also flexible. Don't overreach for a C in R1 when there's a top 10 T at 20. Still get C in R2 that was either the 2nd or 3rd ranked in the class. Don't overreach for a WR when there's a run on them in R1. Address it in R3 with a Diontae Johnson replacement...except this one catches the ball and wants to block/compete. Use your R3 compensatory pick on a medium/high risk player.....with crazy high potential. If Payton Wilson is healthy enough to play, which he was for all 12 games last year, he could turn into a terrifying complement to Queen.
It's just...different. Competent to me would've been Barton or JPJ in R1, reach for a WR or CB in R2, take the other in R3. This just feels different. Like Fautanu fell to them and they immediately reconfigured their board to still accomplish pretty much what they wanted.

You know it was a good draft when Mel Kiper of all people grades the Steelers an A-.
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Kiper wouldn't know a good draft if it bit him in the ass. He is just copying PFF's homework.

And after the Highsmith restructure, they still have room to make some moves. I think they bring in a vet corner who can play slot and possibly still make a move for a receiver who can work on the outside.

I thought PP was much better down the stretch with a slightly reduced role - mostly because of the emergence of JPJ. I wouldn’t be too busted up if he were brought back to fill that role

Patrick Peterson sucks and is done.

I'm not disagreeing with you Skully, but to be fair you'd say that about him sort of without any regard to whatever the objective reality may be.

CB is room is interesting. I think they are really high on Trice, and Watts is kind of cut from the same cloth. Long and lean, good in run support.

Interested to see what they do. They don't restructure Highsmith just for the hell of it, so something is coming.
Would think with the draft over it will have to involve moving a player...maybe Moore? Maybe given Fautanu's flexibility and picking up McCormick do they move one of the Guards? Daniels is in his contract year, and Seumalo will turn 31 during the year. I don't think I'd like that for this year, but I honestly don't think Moore has much value...although I always seem to forget that he's only 25 yrs old.
I know the buzz has been around SF, and I think they are looking for OLine help, and they've got 2 playmaking WRs and just drafted a potential 3rd one in R1 this year. Also thought about all the QBs taken this year that teams may want to 'protect', but I don't think any of those teams gives up a weapon.
Any other potential trade partners out there?

Moore won't get you anything, he will be competing with the rookie tackle in training camp, and could potentially be traded like Dotson or Green last year for a late round pick.genoscoif wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 9:39 am Interested to see what they do. I think it's most likely Sutton from Denver for like a 2025 3rd or 4th. He is also complaining about his contract, so that will need to be resolved as part a trade.
Steelers 2024 Offseason Thread
Yeah, I've heard Sutton thrown around a bit, but does Denver move him after drafting Nix? There were reports that a couple teams reached out to them, but they declined the offers to move him. Also, re: the contract situation... wonder if Tomlin and Co. would view this as a 'Volunteers not Hostages' scenario, whether it should be or not. Although it looks like his cap hit is over $17MM this year, and I'm not sure Denver would want to pay any more Steelers salaries for 2024. lol.Troy Loney wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 9:55 amMoore won't get you anything, he will be competing with the rookie tackle in training camp, and could potentially be traded like Dotson or Green last year for a late round pick.genoscoif wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 9:39 am Interested to see what they do. However, he'd be scary on the field with Pickens, and Russ seemed to find him last year.

Gerry Dulac says the Steelers aren't picking up Najee's 5th year option. Interesting.
