My main use of Prime is my Subscribe and Save stuff. The Prime card and 5% cash back makes it more appealing.

Try standing in the yard and yelling at Amazon couriers as they drive by.

I know I deserve this for buying an Insignia, but I love Smart TVs that immediately go into a deafening trailer when you turn them on. No home screen, straight into a loud video. It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous.

I have a similar complaint about audio/trailers playing on the home page of streaming services' home pages.shafnutz05 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:09 pm I know I deserve this for buying an Insignia, but I love Smart TVs that immediately go into a deafening trailer when you turn them on. I’m confused. Your TV automatically plays a random trailer when you turn it on?shafnutz05 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:09 pm I know I deserve this for buying an Insignia, but I love Smart TVs that immediately go into a deafening trailer when you turn them on. My fire stick started doing this or something similar, then I just turned it off in the settings.

Yeah, my Amazon tv does it.

Wal mart recently bought the Visio TV brand specifically because it was looking for a way to expand its advertising revenue. So I guess tv’s themselves are now another way to advertise. Seems like a win for the American people

I will be honest, generic advertising like that doesnt bother me.
its the all the stuff that is used to track and identify the individual and target sell them that has become a severe problem to me. as is selling identifiable information to outside companies. looking at you automakers...

yeah TVs are annoying like that now. I turn it on and have to wait for it to load an ad before I can click it over to cable. Usually it's pretty quick but sometimes it can take 10 seconds.

That's **** wild. I will never buy a TV that displays an ad before giving over control. I get ads on the OS. Sure, whatever. But an ad on start up? Get the **** out of here.

Could be hard to know if one does or not. I guess it's probably just the OS with the ads but in trying to load the LG TV trailer upon turning the tv on it sometimes delays being able to click over to cable. I don't turn my soundbar on until after i leave that page.

Apple TV for the win here, boots right up and no ads at all, pick whatever app we want to watch and done. Though I don't think either of our Lg tv's (C2/C3) do that with the base OS either, but we never see it at this point cause of the apple tv.
Roku tv in the bedroom doesn't blare ads, but does take a few clicks to get to where we need to do because of how the OS loads.

Yeah I don't see any ads on my LG C1 unless I go to the WebOS, which I never do. I'm guessing you can turn that off, LL. I'm assuming it's "home promotion"

For those of you with YTTV, do you basically power on the TV to the home screen, and then launch YT? When I was trialing it, that was one pet peeve, being unable to launch directly into an app.

I power into FireStick and then launch YTTV when I want to watch YTTV.

I just tested it with the Apple TV in the living room and as long as I don't close out of YTTV before turning the TV off then YTTV launches automatically when I turn the tv on with the Apple tv remote. Don't have to open it on it's own. I'm assuming other apps work the same way.
When we turn off the tv at night we don't close out of YTTV just hit power on the ATV remote and it turns everything off (CEC set up).

I bet I could program my Harmony One to do that with an activity, though I don't think I can control that via Alexa, which is how we power on/off the TV. Doesn't really matter for me, I was just curious.

I get why someone would want to have that old-school cable experience. Most of the time when I turn on the TV I don't know what I want to get into so I'm happy for it to go to the OS/FS menu. Otherwise it would be on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives every time I turned it on thanks to the wife.

We have a cable box still in our basement, but we rarely go down there, especially since xfinity has a streaming app you can use on the firestick. We just watch in the living room when we want to watch. It was really funny though trying to explain to my daughter when we turned on the TV and a show was halfway through that we couldn't just restart it. And explaining what commercials were was even better.
