That certainly shines a light on the quality of Superman as a character.

‘Naked Gun’ Remake, Starring Liam Neeson, Set for July 15, 2025 by Paramount; ‘TMNT’ and ‘Paw Patrol’ Sequels Dated for 2026
Not sure how I feel about a Naked Gun remake, honestly. Leslie Nielsen just killed it in that role, so it's hard to follow up.

The body of this calls it a reboot rather than a remake. It doesn't sound like it'll be a retelling of the first movie. Either way, it's not like Naked Gun is beloved because of the story or characters. This may as well be titled "Untitled Detective Spoof."

I'd like to see Antonio Brown as Nordberg.

Them going with an actor whose name is closest to "Leslie Nielsen" instead of one known for his comedic ability doesn't fill you with optimism?

Leslie Nielsen played primarily dramatic roles up until he was cast in Airplane

Naked Gun is amongst the funniest movies ever made. This is a terrible idea.

I just can't picture Lian Neeson in that role. I'll wait and see, though.

I mean, it's not like Leslie Nielsen can make another one.

To be fair, Leslie probably wasn't considered a comedic actor before police squad/airplane? I remember watching him as swamp fox when I was a kid

I had no idea that Naked Gun was so sacred. Who doesn't want a fun detective spoof?

I also don't really understand the hand wringing about reboots or remakes of properties you like. Worst case, it stinks and you just keep on watching the originals. Best case, it's fun and you can add it to the rotation when you rewatch the originals. It's not like it erases the original films. And this is Naked Gun. They're fun movies but it's not like we're rebooting Godfather here. Personally I'd rather a Hot Shots Part Trois spoofing the reboot of the action franchise with the now 70 year old star.

Dear lord, nobody said it was sacred.

I think it's sacred. And it's pretty much the godfather of comedy films for me. I bet Ive watched the first naked Gun over 200 times. Still remember my grandma introducing it to me and taking me to see 2 1/2 in theaters. You will never have someone step into that role and come out better than what Leslie did. It's some of the best casting Hollywood has ever put on screen. Are the Zucker brothers or Jim Abraham's attached to it? Are they even alive?

I'm aware but that doesn't equate to how Nielsen is viewed now. I also don't see Neeson making the same transformation.

Neeson was very funny in Life's Too Short. This casting is much more interesting to me than if they just cast someone known for comedic roles.

The concept of sacredness is ambiguous but the reason why I’m annoyed by these is because they’re usually shitty, creatively bankrupt by riding the coattails of existing IP and take resources away from new projects. They’re indicative of late stage capitalism in the film world and frustrate me

and maybe you’re good at compartmentalizing new chapter of existing IP but Alien 3 and the Star Wars sequels are a great example of how new stories can negatively affect old ones. Like Newt dying off screen at the beginning of Alien 3, while not front and center when watching Aliens, is definitely something in the back of my mind that I don’t like. Same thing with Luke’s arc in the sequel Star Wars

I agree with that. maybe it's time for a new generation to get in on spoof movies? When's the last one that worked? I hated the scary movie phase, they sacrificed smarts to hit the audience over their heads saying, see this is funny. That's what I fear about a new naked gun
. Give me naked guns, loaded weapon, hot shots, and top secret any day of the week. I just hate this desperate grab in Hollywood to attach it's name to something gold in hopes it works again.

I don't know if I'd agree that they're usually shitty. There are plenty of reboots that are well done. And the ones that aren't are quickly forgotten and the love for the originals remains.

Well, I wouldn't consider Alien 3 a reboot at all. I guess The Force Awakens could fall in that category but I actually like The Force Awakens. You're talking about The Last Jedi, which is no longer a reboot. I understand not liking a story turn in sequels but yeah, I guess I don't really get why it would hurt your enjoyment of the films that precede it. I can still enjoy watching The Matrix even though every Matrix film that came after it was a train wreck. I'm probably weird, though. I can also rewatch Game of Thrones and love the first 6 seasons despite knowing what happens in the last 2.

Best reboots in no particular order: Maverick, Fury Road, Halloween 2018, Star Trek 2009, Casino Royale, Batman Begins, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, X-Men First Class, Scream 2021(?), Spider-man Homecoming, Oceans 11, Evil Dead, Ghostbusters After Life. That's off the top of my head. I'm sure if I thought more, I could expand the list. Reboot doesn't = bad.

“usually” shitty. TG:M and Fury Road are the best possible outcomes of these types of movies but there are 10 Zoolander 2s to every TG:M

also I know Alien 3 wasn’t a reboot. More just lamenting at how sequels can hurt their previous counterparts

What Naked Gun is to you, Loaded Weapon is to me. Countless viewings, and it still enters the queue now at least once a year if not more.

It's so good and being girl scout cookie season, there's been a lot of Wilderness Girl talk going on in me house

First thing that came to mind too...he did deadpan comedy really well in that appearance. I love Naked Gun but I would invite more movies in that vein. Get Zucker on the horn
