I really miss going to AC once every few weeks to play cards.
When they still had 5/10 limit hold'em at the big casinos it was free money. With 1/2 no limit, it still is, basically. But the swings are a little more spazzy.

I used to play in a free poker "points" league every week. But you had a lot of people playing like it was "free poker" and calling stupid stuff. So I quit altogether.
Now I'm very rusty.

The low/mid limit tables were like meditation. Very little critical thought once you establish your game. Just stay with the same system over and over and you'll do great.
I remember some nights I would fold 90% of my hands pre flop for hours on end. Some nights I wouldn't even see the end of a hand for 2 hours at a time. But the tourists always got itchy and played hands they shouldn't. It was great.

How does casino hold'em work? Like typical hold'em (winner takes all) or does it pay out like blackjack/other card games (you win if you beat the dealer)?

I haven't played poker at a casino but I think I remember this being the case

The dealer takes x% of the pot (up to a certain amount). The rest goes to the winner(s) of the hand. The dealer doesn't play. How does casino hold'em work? Like typical hold'em (winner takes all) or does it pay out like blackjack/other card games (you win if you beat the dealer)?

Public card rooms typically charge a fee for conducting the game. The rake is the scaled commission fees taken by a casino operating a poker game. This fee structure is common in low-stakes cash games. For ring games, it is generally 5-10% of each poker hand, up to a predetermined maximum amount, such as 3% up to $3.00. This fee is sometimes referred to as the "drop" since the dealer will drop the rake into a container at the table. In California, rakes based on the size of the pot are not legal, so a fixed per-hand drop is assessed based on the betting limits at the table.
The casino may alternatively charge an hourly rate for renting a seat. This fee is referred to as a time fee, or simply "time." Time fees might be combined with a rake, but that is not common. Time fees are more common in mid or high-stakes games.
For tournaments, the fee might be 10% of the buy-in, but can vary widely. The fee might or might not be spelled out clearly. Generally, a tournament will be advertised as "buy-in amount+fee". For example, "$100+$10" would have $100 going to the prize pool and an additional $10 going to the house as the fee for a total of $110 cost to the player.
Poker is a player versus player game (unlike blackjack or roulette) and the house has no interest in the money wagered. The rake, drop, or time fees provide the house's revenue.

Wow, you are making me wax nostalgic. You described it perfectly. I usually played at the Trop...like you said, I would just sit there lost in my own thoughts. Obviously I'd play some hands depending on where I was positioned, but by and large I'd just sit there and bide my time. The thing is, most people don't/won't even recognize you are only playing premium hands, as they have very short memories or are drinking. The low/mid limit tables were like meditation. It's not a very profitable game for the casinos, especially with the space it takes up and how people park themselves in the poker room. It took years into the boom for casinos to get serious about their poker rooms for that reason. But eventually they needed to have a nice room to draw people in.

I'd get itchy sometimes when tourists would come down and be in that sweet spot where they want to get back in the plus but were in the flow of the game...tourist sits down, urban sombrero, $100 bill...nickles and dimes himself out of $20-$30 quick but feeling a little more determined and comfortable...that's when they chase a J-Q suited to the river, or they flopped 3 of a kind because two 8's surfaced and they chase because they want to win one...that's when you hit them for some cash...

Are there blinds or what? Can you sit there and play premium hands only basically for free?

Yes, there are blinds. They vary based on the game you choose. 1-2 No Limit has $1 and $2 small and large blinds.

And how would you like it if I shot you in the ass with a bb gun?Where I lived in GA they were everywhere in my backyard and would come up on the deck and plunder the bird feeder so I bought a bb gun to fight back. After a while they saw the gun and knew what was coming.Squirrels are cute. My gf and I feed them shelled peanuts in the park.Silly question, but, why are people so grossed out by rats but not squirrels...? Squirrels are welcomed but rats are just considered vile, grotesque creatures...I can understand liking one over the other, but why are they on such opposite ends of the spectrum...?
And I think people like fluffy things.
![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
I would have played with them. There a few squirrels in the park that are so used to, well, either us or humans in general, they come up and take food right from the hand.

Well, from what I understand is that you do have to move it some. You can't just, let's say, put it in cast and leave it there. It'd get stuck or something. You have to move it gently from time to time to keep the range of motion and blood flow but, at the same time, not so much that you make it worse. If you have inflammation, you should watch it. So, rest of most of the time, and some movement but not so much you strain it or stress it or hurt it. Nerves regenerate, which is a great thing. But it takes weeks, sometimes months. Problem you may have is that something may be pressing on a nerve and I hope you won't need surgery. Let me know what the chiro says.. I'm curious. Are you sure you're supposed to stretch it? I think a nerve needs to relax more than anything. I am trying to rest my shoulder/arm as much as I can, but a nerve issue like yours can take up to a few months to get better. If it doesn't then you'll need surgery to relieve the pressure. I hope it's not a herniated disk or a bone spur. You might need an mri or x-ray.This sciatic nerve stuff is not getting much better. Doc last week just gave me some heavy duty anti-inflammatory stuff, but it hasn't done much good. Been icing my back, and applying heat, been stretching out(as much as I can without being in a ton of pain), but nada.
I really don't want to go to the ER for this. Just sucks.
Yeah I'm not sure. My doc said walking/stretching would help. I took the dog for a walk yesterday and felt awful afterwards. I compensated all my weight to my other leg because putting any weight on the bad side/leg caused big time pain from my lower back down through my leg. It sucks. Gonna try to get to the chiropractor today.
