non profit doesn’t mean they don’t price gouge. It just means they can’t end the fiscal year with a profit
my dad is a GP at a non profit hospital and based on what he tells me they care about the patients as little as possible. It’s all about efficiency. I think the rule is you can’t spend more than 30 minutes with one patient unless there are special circumstances

Today will be a day long remembered.
When I left Pennsylvania I was but an idealistic and broke-ass 24-year old seeking fortune and glory in the Entertainment Industry. Today, as I cruise towards my 51st orbital anniversary, the circle has been completed. For I have been assigned to the upcoming Bon Jovi docu series.

Replace hospitals with elementary schools. I get 79 emails a day where 99% of the content is fundraising and 1% is some important info that I need to remember for my kids in April. Do they know how much dodint pays in taxes for our kids to go to school?shoeshine boy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 11:44 am I always feel like hospital fundraisers are like, what? do you know how much healthcare costs in this country? and you want me to "donate" more money????

You wanna do anything outside the normal classroom routine then the money’s gotta come from somewhere. It’s not gonna come from the school.
Things are a little different down here with sports, but I’m sure it’s not far off. We have to fundraise for sports in order to get anything beyond the basics. The school gets x amount yearly from the district for refs, field maintenance, and travel. Once that is used up, the school has to pay. Middle school sports were just added in to school sponsored sports, so now there’s more to pay for. Teachers have to work ticket sales as part of their duty and coaches are expected to have a cdl to help curb expenses. But we were told that we have to raise about $15000 extra to help cover everything above what the district will cover. So to keep things going, fundraisers have to happen.

Yeah, schools don’t bother me as much. My view is skewed though having been a teacher. Anytime fiscally responsible government wants to cut costs it’s education. So I don’t mind giving. Something like UPMC Children’s Hospital though? They can pound salt. They have more than enough.

We fundraise so that our kids can go on class trips, have special events at school, etc. I'm more than fine with that.

I don't mind school fundraising as long as there's a buyout option where I can throw them $100 and we don't need to fundraise. We have a detente in our neighborhood where our kids don't ask neighbors for money and they don't ask us. Same for our nieces and nephews. Half the fundraisers are the same and the others, I can donate to their basketball and they can donate to our soccer or we can just pay it ourselves.
That's why this business I talked about last year of the HS musical wanted everyone to give them 10 emails to spam annoyed me so much. How much do you want? NO YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. Seriously, I'll give you $300 to not have to do this. 60% response rate at $50 a pop. JUST THE EMAILS SIR. **** that. And they made us do it again this year after playing it last year as "well we are short funds coming out of COVID so we need this major fundraiser."

Jesus. That’s what sleezy insurance companies do when someone new starts. They’d get a lot of eatfatdicks@taste.com type addresses.RonnieFranchise wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 8:09 am I don't mind school fundraising as long as there's a buyout option where I can throw them $100 and we don't need to fundraise. That's literally what 90% of our fundraisers are - 'if you can send in some cash, it would help'. They have events throughout the year, like pajama day, where you donate $1 and your kid can wear pajamas in school. Stuff like that, and the kids all love it.

Ours does that too. Ice cream Fridays where it cost $1 for a mini ice cream sandwich. Dress down Fridays where kids don’t have to be in uniform for $1.

correct, in case it wasn’t clear in my post where I said they don’t have to be in uniform
