Yes. Technically, he's supposed to wear it all the time except when eating for the rest of his life. That's not going to happen. So we're doing at night at least for a year or two.

Yeah, I agree. It's not practical either. The retainer we got was a clear resin mouthguard looking thing which is supposed to last for 2 years. The traditional metal one lasts (I think) 5 years. Then it's $200-250 to replace. I figure 2 years will put him at 17, when he is about finished growing. That'll do.

Never mind the orthodontist office is now 75 minutes away. I LOVED signing him out of school to drive for a 5 minute checkup that last stretch where we were waiting for the braces to finishing doing their thing. We would get into the office, sign in, he would go back without getting to the waiting room usually. I'd sit down and open my work email or book and he'd be out and ready to go. **** off.

I wore my retainers at night for the longest time. I still do from time to time now if I feel my teeth shift over time. I spent way too much time getting it all corrected to have it mess up.

I had a permanent retainer installed behind my bottom front teeth. Basically it was a metal rod that would constantly get food stuck in it. It annoyed enough that I removed it on my own once I got older and of course my bottom teeth are now crooked.

I think we've covered this before but lil mac I hope takes after me, his teeth are over straight and symmetrical right now at 5y/o. Hoping his adult teeth stay the same. I had to have no ortho work.

Baby Mac on the other hand with the cleft palate from birth. Fully expecting 5 figure sums of money wrapped up in his mouth lol

It gets better and it will only hurt the day after they get adjusted or tightened. The biggest issue we had initially was one or two of the braces rubbing on the upper cheek/lip. Had to use wax for a few weeks until his bite changed enough that it stopped rubbing. Then the flossing and brushing, which is always an issue without braces, was problematic. Mostly just patient laziness.

That's basically what I told her. At least it's Friday and she can enjoy a weekend of no activities.

She has one of those cheap $10 ones, but should I go with a quality one for braces? I hadn't thought of that.

I'd get a waterpik as well. Makes getting food out of the spaces easier when you can't brush the whole surface area.

Yes, to the waterpik. We got one of those (or a knockoff) and he's still using that a lot (sans braces).

A lot of the knockoff ones on Amazon do not provide adequate pressure. I know a lot of dentists and almost to a rule, they said that is the best investment you can make for your dental health.

Every time baby Franchise complains about what a pain her invisalign is I tell her I had to wear stupid headgear which was basically a metal bar that fit into two ports, one on either side of my mouth, and had an elastic strap that held it on. Thank God I only had to wear it at night, which was bad enough since I'm a side sleeper. Some kids had to wear it to school.

My son didn’t do so well with brushing his teeth with braces. The ortho shook his finger at him at a couple of the adjustments. He had to start using mouthwash 3 days a week because his gums were swelling.

They come off in a month and a half. He’ll also get a retainer, but I see that lasting all of one month before he either loses it or refuses to wear it.

Wife and I were participating in marital activities on Friday night and then we heard our daughter scream crying. She threw up everywhere…

She spent yesterday battling fever, vomiting, body pains, headache, just a terrible day. This morning was largely the same and then a switch flipped mid day and she was fine. It left as quickly as it came on.

Unfortunately for me (beyond the Friday night disruption) is my wife doesn’t deal with puke. Being with someone while puking, cleaning puke, even just hearing a puking sound, she can’t do it. So it was on me for all of that fun.

Damn c2i, glad she's feeling better. Those stomach bugs come on like a bat out of hell with no warning, not fun.

Day 5 of braces: one of the brackets fell off. Now she's worried about what they have to do to fix it, and how long it'll be like this before they can get her in.

Ortho said it's not an issue and can wait until her next visit (March) to fix. Daughter is not going to be happy to hear that, and I'm sure will complain about it every single day.
